Hi guys me and my tech were talking and he was telling me that if my car starts burning any more oil i will have to go to honda and have them replace the motor
(still under warenty 6 years or 160000km)
just so you know i am driveing a 2000 prelude sh with 132000 ruffly. and i am burning through all my oil in about 2500 km.

do you guys think i will have trouble getting honda to replace it.

not at that rate! how hard do you drive it? in vtec alot? vtec eats oil like its the thing to do

i do drive in vtec a lot but 4.8L of oil in 2500km not miles is a lot of F&*& oil

 

yeah thats a lot of oil dude....

if youre gonna do it call first to make sure they will

then take off any engine upgrades and put the stock peices back on when you go...

 

would you bother takeing off the header or just leave it everything else came one the car that has anything to do with the motor

 

Yeah i'd put the stock header back on because they might still consider it an "engine modification" which could void ur warrenty.

yea samething happen to me with my civic. had headers and other mods and they wouldn't work on my car cause of the mods. REPLACE ALL MODS WITH STOCK PARTS. Don't take it to them with the mods on it. You'll regret it.

 

Most bolt on's don't void your warranty, but they'll TELL you that it does because they don't like warranty work. Dealerships hate it because of the cost, mechanics hate it because it doesn't pay dick.

But yes, you need to have that mother replaced. BADLY.

 

the only time they can refuse to warranty a part due to aftermarket parts being put on is when they can prove that the part contributed to the damage. if a rock got caught in yoru cam gears because you sawed holes so people can se ethem, yeah you are probably screwed, but if they refuse to fix a fried pitton ring because of a cold air intake, they have got some issues and if you went in there knowing what you are talking about, they should lighten up... but hey, if you fried a piston ring, you obviously weren't driving normal and the'll tell you to screw off... just examples, not trying to assume you drive liek a retard or anything.

check import tuners website and look for a column about warranty rejection.. they had a few page spread in their magazine a few months back you guys should read.

 

well that is all good stuff but from what my tech has been telling me is that h22 are prone to this problem because of the frm when i bought the car from the dealer ship there was a greddy cat back aem coldair intake. i only bought it last march

and my tech said that they usuly go out around 150000 km or 100000miles

but what i real need to know is do they have to replace it or can they find a loop whole

edit: the tech is my friend and he is going in with me when i bring it back out of storage in the spring and he is there biggest costumer.

wtf 100000miles? Guy probaly the VAST majority of ppl on this board are way over the 100000 mile mark. I know i'm up to 165 on my oem engine.

a dealership can always find a loophole. they have the backing of the manufacturer. and the manufacturer has more lawyers and money than you do.

That said, it is usally in the dealer's best interest to make sure that they take care of their customers. The dealership is paid by Honda for all warranty work that Honda agrees to up front. If the dealership doesn't want to do the work, they're either lazy or are afraid that honda won't honor their warranty claim.

absolutely well put. the only thing is...a dealer/manufacturer can sometimes find a way to show that the AEM intake caused the early demise of the piston rings.

 

but the thing is i bought the car from honda with it on there

 

if you bought teh car from honda liek that.. with a warranty, they need to warranty it.

 

personally, i wouldn't worry about the intake or exhaust or the parts you got with it when you bought it, obviously if honda gave you the warranty with those aftermarket parts already on it then they'll have to back it. but i definitely would put everything back to stock on the engine, including the headers, why take a chance of not getting a replacement. and as far as your tech telling you about the whole 100-150k mile thing...i think that he doesn't know what he's talking about. lol...at first i was gonna tell you to get a vtec controller or something so you could set your vtec to a higher rpm kick-in so it wouldn't suck so much oil but then i read just how much oil you were burning; that's crazy.

 

ya, just put everything back to stock. Honda will replace a new one for you, at least my friend got that because of burning too much oil. i remember they just replaced a new bottom end for him though. can 't really recall

 

IMHO put everything back to stock - it will cost you NOTHING compared to new engine price.

 

Make sure any mods you have are done PROPERLY because it will be hard enough getting them to do it if the car is bone stock. Some of those warranties, you could put a performance exhaust and then the doorfalls off and they'll blame your exhaust for that and refuse to fix it. But yeah, call them first.
