Default How important is the "pulse" feature to make nice TIG welds...

I'm just trying to figure out if I should get the Miller Dynasty 200, or the 200DX. The only notable difference of the DX that I can see is more adjustability, and the pulsed arc.

I'm just wondering how important that pulse is, or if I can get away making nice strong welds in steel/aluminum without it.

TIA,
Bryson

It's nice, but not needed.

I thought Miller discontinued the pulse feature, I know they did on some of the machines. Even though they still advertise as if they do have the pulse features in them.

They need to update there, cause I know for sure the miller 180sd does not have the pulse feature anymore.

There coming out with new machines though, and there is a 50/50 chance there going to bring back the pulse feature.

The older 180sd had it as an option. The Dynasty series still has it as an option, as well as the bigger syncrowave machines.

Nope, they discontinued it.

Yep, but they got rid of it, but there is rumor there coming back out with it. Sometimes you can get lucky and find the pulse circuit board on ebay for like $150

Yeah I tried the pulse feature the other day on the Dynasty 200 and didn't like it too much.

Bryson, I talked to the guy that owns the shop as well and he said that he's probably going to be selling the Dynasty 200DXs from the class I've been taking (they were all purchased brand new 2 weeks ago) once the class finishes in about 2 weeks. I forgot what he told me on the pricing but I think it was at least $600-700 under the retail price.

Awsome. Would he be including the contractor kit with them as well? I found a guy on ebay selling the 200 with contractor kits for 2700.

I purchased the 200DX recently with the Coolmate 3. It is an awesome machine. My torch never heated up, even after 3 straight hours of continuous use. Great machine. I have not used the pulse feature yet though....

I've used the pulser in a Lincoln Squarewave 255 - complete waste of time imo. Just keep a steady foot and select the right tungsten and amperage for the thin stuff, which really isn't all that difficult

I picked up a 200dx a couple of months ago. It has the pulser on it. I like it.

While I don't use the pulser for everything, it works well for welding thin gauge stainless with little to no warping.

Its an awesome welder for the size of it. Not to mention that you can plug it into anything from normal household 110vac to 3-phase 460vac by only changing the plug on the cord.

The contractor kit comes with a wp-17 size torch, which it a little large for my taste, atleast for thin metals.

this is what i ment as an option.

we installed ours, used it a couple times.

personally, i think it slows you down, even on a high amp/fast pulse.
