Strut bars connect the strut towers (chasis) to prevetn chasis flex. Sway bars connect the motion/forces/ between the otherwise independent wheel actions. Sway bars will create a larger difference in handling than strut bars.

cliffs: strut bars are found in the trunk and under the hood; sway bars are found under the car.

Don't let tie bars confuse you either. They are located under the rear and under the front of some sports cars and are available in after market. They are a bar that joins two points on control arms to stiffen the chasis and reduce flex.

I will reiterate, the rear sway bar will make a greater handling difference than probably all three bars you are considering (struts and tie). Unfortunatly, they are not as noticable (read: flashy) to an onlooker, but I notice my sway bar everytime I get in my car.
