Tech Help: Car won't go in gear!
Hey guys, I know most of you dont know me but I own a 2000 ITR number 65, I'm more of the quiet reader non poster but I am just looking for an possibly info or ideas you guys might come up with. My car will not shift into gears once the engine is turned on. When it is standing still engine off, I can shift 1-5 and reverse with ease but once it is turned on, I cant shift into any gears. The weird thing is I can jam the hell out of it to get it into to 1st to start, then get moving and then it will shift pretty easily 2-5 (not quite as smooth as when it is just standing still with engine off but it will shift without me jamming the hell out of it). I was looking for any ideas on what this might be. because I'm pretty much stumped. Thanks in advance!
Sometimes you need to get it into or past the 1st gear synchro with a very light blip of the gas, when starting to move from a stop.
Other than that you might be low on clutch fluid, and/or it might need to be bled.

i second that, also have somone watch to see if your clutch fork moves and how much it moves when the clutch is pressed in, sounds like the clutch just isnt disengaging

first gear isnt synchronized.

I will try the fork idea though. That sounds very logical. Thanks guys

u sure... i never have any problems going into first while rolling... reverse isnt syncro, i know that... but i think 1st is...

Word. Same thing happened to me when I accidentally boiled my clutch fluid.
Bleed/refill the clutch fluid. Could be a sign of a bad clutch/pressure plate, but likely just fluid or master cylinder going bad.
I'm not gonna get into the "which gears have synchro's" argument.

If you can't change gears when the car's on it means the clutch isn't disingaging the flywheel when you press the clutch pedal. Maybe your pressure plate is broken. Did you check your slave cylinder? Like others mentioned, check your fluid as well.
Only 4 Possable Problems here, do in this order:
1. Drain your Clutch Fluid and replace with new stuff and bleed. If that dosen't work proceed to the next step.
2. Replace Clutch Slave Next if that dosent work
3. Replace Clutch Master Next if that dosent work
4. Inspect for streching or strippage of the Pressure Plate bolts, if they are fine but loose, tighten them back up and use lock tight. If they are stripped you are going to need a new flywheel and possably a clutch. If the bolts are tight, your pressure plate is shot.

Do a visual inspection of the opperation of the cylinders before you replace them.

The same thing happened to my my car a couple years ago. I couldnt shift into any gears with the car running, but shut it off and it shifts fine. My problem ended up being a bend shift fork, replaced that and everything was fine. So maybe check that.... Ryan
I had a similar problem and then I finally did the gas thing and got it into gear and it became stuck in gear and I couldn't move my car at all not even roll it. I had to get it towed from hella far at like 3 in the morning in middle of nowhere..lol
I had the same problem. Check your throw out bearing and clutch springs. One of my clutch springs had broke and was doing havoc on the trans.
