weird noise upon cold engine start
i just bought a 96 del sol vtech coupe (160 hp!) and after ariving home and starting the car the next day i noticed some sort of a hum noise coming from just below and just behind the dash centered inline with the stick shift. it almost sounds like some sort of pump trying to work without any liquid. however it only makes the noise for about two seconds and then it stops. but when i start the car about five hours later (on a cold engine) it will make the short buzz or hum noise again. has anyone ever experienced this? even if you have a diff model, have you ever had any problem like this? maybe it is one of my pumps for something, cuase it sounds like a very loud fish pump that buzzes when it is on or something. but the sound only lasts about two seconds, and on a cold engine start. noise never happens when i am driving. someone help!

nice buy......i hear it really hard to find those del sol's. and just so you dont get flamed later its "vtec".
is it when the car is started or when you are about to start it (key in the number 2 position) if it is when you are about to start it then it may be just the fuel pump.

If you're not sure, I wouldn't replace the fuel pump. Make sure you know exactly what it is before you put money into fixing it, that's like the #1 rule, because you don't want to be throwing money away.... get an expert opinion, if we can't help you in here, go to the shop and have them check it out.

but i dont want to pay someone just tell me that something is wrong with my car when i already know that something is. what i will do is take my car to my work cuase i work for mercedes and there are some techs there that will take a look for me. with no cost to me of course, but i was hoping to find answers without going through of all the trouble with mechanics and stuff.

OT...Hey, don't worry about it, they'll block the site from all Govt. computers if they didn't want you going there (well, AF installations will). The AF just implemented a "Smart Filter" system on all AF networks and I was a little worried that it might block Honda-Tech, but it didn't!
