last night i was going about 35 mph and my speedometer just dropped to zero, about when the car completly warmed up. It kicked back in but then it died again. Its just the speedometer, every other guage works fine. I parked the car for the night, This morning it worked fine my entire trip to and from Dunkin Donuts.
Any ideas what this problem could be and/or how to fix it?

 

I suspect either a loose connection or the speedometer cluster itself. Reason?

If it were the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) or the ECM (Engine Control Module), it would have either set a "Check Engine" Lamp code, and there would probably been so other 'hints' as well.

If it happens again, be aware of anything else it's doing at the same time.

I did forget to mention that the check engine light came on.
other things the cars been doin is that it sputters and runs like crap under 2500rpms. I just thought it needed a new fuel filter. but like at 2500 rpms+, it runs fine.
