Default slow rising egt temp

im sure this has been covered many many times btu right now the search function is down. but im cruisin at like say 50 and my egt's are chillin at 1000. but then slowly they'll reach like 1100. same thing at 80. they'll go from 1300 to 1400. is that b/c the engine is runnin a little leaner b/c it doesn't have to use as much fuel to keep that speed? ir is something going wacky?

From those temps. I am assuming the exhaust temperature sensor is installed correctly. People somehow always seem to think when their exhaust temps are running high they are running lean, this is not always true. The unburnt gases in a rich mixture would ignite in the exhaust piping thereby increasing the temperatures of the gases which already left the engine. In other words you would need to part trottle pulls on a dyno or some street tuning to address this problem.

Egt's are nice tools when used in addition to other devices like wideband o2.Exhaust temps rise from lean condition and rich (fuel burning in exhaust).Retarding ignition timing raises egt also from unburned fuel burning in the exhaust.Egt is often displayed as a bell curve graph.
