Default sensor off, lost lots of water???

i took out my TW Water temperature sensor and i had water come out everywhere as expected. i know i need to add some more coolant, but there will be air in the lines is this a problem in cooling system? how do i get my car operating again once i put the new sensor back in?

do i add water directly to the radiator and then what?
