Default DIY Garage Heater

Well, i got sick of using my Kerosene tube heater and I couldn't justify the cost of running natural gas (first house, just starting out) so I whipped myself up this 10,000watt electric heater.

Basically this is 2 240v 4800w Dimplex portable construction heaters in a sleeve with a 230v 700cfm centrifugal fan in the back. I have it wired up with a switch, thermostat and a 40a contactor. Its a bit pricy to run, but it will be fine for what i need it for! I have #8 wire running to my 50a tig welder plug for now.

Thing works great, and for only spending $160CAD on everything it was a good deal too!

Calculates out to 32,765 BTU!

don't knock it until you've stood in my garage in the middle of a subzero MN winter. Mine is thermostat controlled up to 90 degrees and down to 30 degrees. I run it on average of 2-3 times a week and have it set for 55ish degrees usually. I barely notice it on the energy bills

I just drive the hell out of my street car and park it inside. Then open the hood.. It really makes a substancial difference!
