Default GSR vs ITR vs SI valve cover

I learned or.. heard recently itr valve cover is a bit taller, i know grommets are different on itr

i guess it makes no differnce, but if it does.. then.. why taller valve cover for itr vs gsr, and is it same height as civic valve cover?

The grommets are chrome on Type Rs. I don't think there is any difference except being red and black between the 3 unless you take into account the H/Honda Motor Co. and small/big DOHC VTEC.

There is another difference... the type-R valve cover is actually cheaper than the GSR.

Type-R 12310-P73-A00 $199.48
GSR 12310-P61-A00 $261.35

There are actually a handful of ITR parts that are cheaper than their GSR counterparts, but none are performance related IIRC.

Because there are more GSRs on the road than ITRs. If your valvecover is chipping and the "service advisor" says it could cause your engine to blow, you'll buy another.

If you want performance out of your valvecover, dish out $915 and get a Mugen.

Actually cost goes down with the more you make. So the GS-R valve cover should be cheaper. I don't know the real reason why the the Type R valve cover is cheaper as it should cost more.

The 'performance' advantage with the MUGEN is that it is lighter. However, you could take a **** and get the same 'performance' advantage for free.

That's common sense, but Honda doesn't care how little it costs them; they're in the business for profit. Why else do you think a lip is more expensive than a front bumper? Because they're wear and tear items that people will replace after time. So if you have a higher demand for GSR valvecovers which is obvious since they greatly outnumber ITRs, you're going to milk that market regardless how much it cost you to produce the product.

The true performance aspect of the Mugen valvecover is it's internal baffling to help your engine breathe better as well as the lightweight F1 aluminum they use - :sarcasm:

My understanding is that 97 ITR front lips are no longer available (with only 480 or so 97 ITRs sold in North America).
Whereas they made tens of thousands of 94-97 Intrgras ....

Sorry sir, I should have been more specific and mentioned I was talking about Civic lips. http://www.hondaautomotivepart...UMPER

Even with 98-01 lips, they're significantly more than the front bumper.
http://www.acuraautomotivepart...y.jsp

Same thing with the front and rear bumpers. There are more rear ends than front end collisions, which is why the rear is more expensive. Plastic mold injection for the front bumper can't be that much different than a rear.

They are still around. You can still order the 97 ITR front lip from the offical honda e-store, and it will be shipped to your local dealership.

If you want the ultimate in performance valve covers see my sig

BTW zygspeed, if you decide you no longer want to hang onto that lip 357 could use an uncracked lip

I could use $400.
Which is pretty much what I paid for it a while back.

Just patch up your old one and repaint it .... but we digress.

Actually, thats false. The ITR rear lower control arms are cheaper than rs/ls/gs/gsr lcas. And they are lighter. thats performance right there!

Value is in the eye of the beholder. Some people don't think twice about spending 5-6 digit prices for modifications for their cars just because they can afford to.

You should look into ordering from Len, a h-t sponsor. He works at a Acura dealership and gives great discounts on all parts. I got my front lip shipped to my house for like low 300's.
