Default Temp Gauge WIth MIND of Its Own!!!!

My temp gauge reads hot++ & goes way beyond range as soon as the car warms up fans, hoses, thermosat radiator and everything is fine, and motor stays cool!!!

Im thinking the temp gauge on the cluster is grounded out or something??? but have no real idea of what the hell is going on.

Has this happened to anybody before?? ???

Any suggestions PLZ!!

You can check out the sender for the temperature gauge. The Helm book should say what electrical resistance it's supposed to have at different temperatures. So take the sender out, get an ohm-meter, thermometer, & a pot of hot water...

Then with the wire NOT plugged into anything, turn on the ignition & have someone watch the gauge. If you can make the gauge jump around by wiggling the wire, then you've got a short that needs to be fixed.
