Default Boosting a single

What would be a good compression for pistons on a single that is boosted....I have a D16Z6 SVTECH turbo and blew my bottom end simply due to the compression of the pistons, boost was up at 9 (technically probably boosting at high speeds around 15-20) and she got very sick..... how low should i go on my piston compression wtih my new rebuild..... any help would be VERY much appreciated!

SVTECH, eh? You wouldn't happen to mean SOHC VTEC, now would you? Put 9.0 or 10 : 1 CR pistons in it and get a good tune and you'll be all set.

they come stock with 9.2:1!!!! put some JE low crompressionsin around 8.5:1 or even 8:1.

If you blew it from being stock compression before then it will happen again.

what blew in the bottom end?

it depends on how much you want to boost, cuz they are low compression motors as it is, anything less and you're gona have turbo lag

turbo lag depends on the size of his turbo those. sure every turbo has lag but some you can't even tell....

what size turbo you be pushing boy?

Gezuz....you guys are seriously being as*es.....i misprounounced my sohc-vtec.....deal wtih it...i type fast.

I talked wtih my husband last night, and he and i decided to go wtih the lower compression pistons than 9.1......we also figured out that the whole reason it bottomed out- was like I said....there was too much boost and there was no where for the pressure to escape....I am almost ready to say F* turbos, only because everyone at the shop seems to think that going all motor is still expensive but in the long run our turbo car will require much more maintenance. Oh well...we're doing the work on it ourselves, so the rebuild on the bottom end wont be anymore than 1000-1200 even with some better internals. Anyway- thanks boys for humoring me and giving me a hard time! Have a great weekend! Check out my site onmyspace, and MY new ride.....(Fully built B18SGR)...she needs a little work, I am getting a new front bumper, rear taillights and cf hood...but other than that shes pretty damn sick

lower than 9:1? ....

I would stick to 9:1 c/r with some forged internals and you can daily drive at 1 bar with good tuning.

N/A isn't any more reliable....it's just more expensive and slower.

I'm sorry, I'm just really confused right now:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 1badcivicchic &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> boost was up at 9 (technically probably boosting at high speeds around 15-20) </TD></TR></TABLE>

I don't know what this means. Are you saying that 15-20mph is high speed or that at high speeds you are boosting 15-20 psi?! If ur running w/no wastegate...yeah...

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by xCIVICx &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

I think 8:1 is too low. 8.5:1 would still be okay, I think 9:1 is good. Hell, stock d16z6s can make over 200whp SAFELY w/proper tuning.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by turbodreamz0385 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">some shmucko stole it</TD></TR></TABLE>

Wait, it bottomed out? That may not be a boost related issue. Slow down when you pull into your driveway.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 1badcivicchic &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">but other than that shes pretty damn sick</TD></TR></TABLE>

Are we still talking about your car?!?

Just run 6:1 compression and be done w/it, you'll thank me later.
