Default Cracked Ring land-->still run ok?

I'm thinkin i cracked a ring land-

I still drive, get good mileage but i've got hella blowby and i burn about 1qt of oil every other day (40-50miles total, 20-50)

The idle drops down low but my vacuum numbers are right about 20in/hg give or take...

if you bust a ring land will the car still run and be drivable? I'm assuming its all a matter of degree but i think if i did break a land that by now it would have gotten worse, unless they dont tend to get progressively worse...

what are your experiences with this?

setup:
straight t3, stock block, 6psi dsm 440, walbro, crome tuned, fmic

TIA

Yes. I cracked the land on the #3 in my 99 Si and it still ran "ok"... In fact, it would still loose traction up o 60mph.. BUT the idle would drop down really low, car would shake pretty hard to (engine mount inserts). It was more then obvious something was wrong. Compression test confirmed it when I had only 30psi on that cylinder.

You sure you have a cracked ringland? If your idle is 20 in Hg....thats good. The optimum range is 18-22 in Hg. I would say you're good.......as far as idling.

That means little.. Think about it. He is using a lot of oil, right? Where do you think the oil is going? Most likley up through the cracked land.. When the oil sits in the crack, its going to "fill" it in, right? Same concept as doing a wet compression test and thus it could still cause the vac to read in the "normal" range. Go do a compression test and tell me what the results are.

i cracked a ringland on 2 separate motors...the first motor i kept racing on it for 6 months or so and the tranny went out so i junked it...the second motor i kept on it for another 6 months and it blew a diff piston than the one with the cracked ringland...if your car's not smoking out the exhulst you should be fine driving it around till you can replace it...

Thanks for all the good comments gents!

I did a compression test a few weeks back ( i need to do another) i was looking like 200, 205,155,205....so at that time it wasn't ideal but it wasn't as bad as it could be i guess. I do get a good ammount of smoke out the back, at full throttle but at times when pulling from a stop. The biggest thing is all the blow by...on startup its a cloud that surrounds the car so things are obviously not ideal...

the idle has been falling down to the 5-600rpm range but latly its been improving...so i don't know what thats about....

keep your experiences comming!

Rick

I drove on a broken ringland for a few months, it will just get progressively worse, start saving your $$$ for some forged goodies.
