My wife calls me & tells me that when she got out of work she seen a big puddle of oil under her car. She has a coworker look under the hood & checks the oil & tells her there is no oil in the car. so for some stupid reason she drives 2 miles to Wal-Mart & asks if they could fix it. Dont LOL, She dont know any better. they tell her NO.

So she buys 2 qt of oil & puts it in the motor & races to the honda dealer miles away. The service guy tell her it looks like her upper and/or lower seal is shot. Oil on drivers side of motor. then she says the guy tells her she may med to replace the timming belt since oil may have soaked it. So she asks what it would cost & her says "$450-$700".

I have not seen the car because i was at work. the car is a 96 accord lx with 66K miles.

Q:could the guy be telling her the truth ??

She feels that they are highballing her since she is a female & dont know anybetter.

 

sounds like the balancer shaft seal popped out.... i have seen it happen many times .....And yes if it is the seal it will oil soak the timing belt ,, total cost is around 500-600 dollars ,,including t-belt, balancer belt, water pump, coolant, balancer shaft seal + retainer, crank seal. valve cover gasket, oil pump seal, alternator and p/s belts

i think honda had a recall on those , they were installing a balancer shaft seal retainer for free , i believe it covered 94-97 accords ,you might want to talk to the honda district manager see if they can help u out ....

 

Anybody know of any recalls on this ?????
