oem re010 for JDM 16"
Hi all,
been trying to find out if it is possible to get the bridgestone potenze re010's for my jdm 16" rims.
I know they make a 215/45zr/16 for the NSX, but those wont work TypeR's since its designed specifically for the front of the NSX.
I did a search, but no answers whether or not they are available in North america.
I really like the characteristics and drving feel of the potenza's.
please help
thanks

they wont fit because they only offer the 16" for the front 2 tires for the NSX, and they are specifically designed for the suspension settings on it. which is a bummer.

then u can get 2 sets of 2 fronts.. that makes it 4. and u can rock them on your JDM 16"
there is no tire that's ONLY made for one specific car or for specific suspension design.
and even if it was designed to fix ferraris.. i bet u can fit those tires on nsx and still be fine
like.. think about it.. they are all same thread patterns and only differance is maybe speed rating and the diameter ..as 15" re010's
they used same material, same thread pattern as 15" usdm itr rims.
i am using kumho mx's.. on my itr.. and i know for sure that that tire wasnt designed for ITRs but it works great.

stock RE010s (215/45-16s) were pretty twitchy on these rims..

Are you sure you got the ones made for the JDM R and not the ones made especially for use as front tires on the NSX? As that is the 215/45/16's usually available in the US. These are made as right and left tires to work with the suspension settings on the NSX, not a good tire to use on an ITR.
Yes, very true.
You can tell the difference as follows. The ones made for the NSX - that are NOT recommended for the ITR - are both directional and asymmetric. If the sidewall of the tire says "SIDE FACING OUTWARD" (or "SIDE FACING INWARD"), AND has an arrow for "DIRECTION OF ROTATION", that's an NSX tire.
this is just the info I got from searching. what you say makes sense itr1244, but need to know for sure.
thanks for the imput

humm.. well in that case.. i'm not sure.. but theoretically both tires should be pretty damn close.. both being same material + pattern.
but again. i'm not 100% sure ...
if i were u .. i'd just go with some other tires..
it's not worth the time/money IMO
there must be tons of new tires that might perform/feel better than re010 outthere.

The directional, symmetric version of the 215/45-16 RE010 used on the JDM ITR is not available in North America. However, there are lots of good tires available; I'm sure you can find something that meets your needs. Don't be afraid to try 205/45-16; you'll find a lot more tires available in that size, and it will fit the ITR just as well (its outer diameter is 0.8 percent smaller than stock, vs 0.7 percent larger for the 215/45).

The RS2 (which is usually called the Z212; its full name is the Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212) is an entirely different kind of tire from the RE010. The Z212 is a super-sticky, fast-wearing specialty tire, designed to perform in between a street tire and a track tire, similar to the Falken Azenis RT-615. The RE010 is a high-performance street tire designed to maximize handling crispness while still providing reasonable treadlife. (And remember, if a tire costs half as much but only lasts half as long, it's not cheaper to use.)
If I wanted a tire similar to the RE010 - one that offered a combination of great performance and handling crispness, but still lasted a reasonably long time - for a 16" wheel on an ITR, I would buy the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 in 205/45-16 ($128/tire at the Tire Rack). If you wanted a tire with only slightly less grip/handling for a lower price, consider the Toyo T1-R, $100/tire in 205/45-16 from onlinetires.com If you didn't care about how long it lasted and you wanted even more grip than either of these, then the Hankook Z212 ($89/tire in 205/45-16, $91/tire in 215/45-16 from Discount Tire) would be a good choice.
Read my post here for an overview of various tires, classified by how much traction they have.
