Cracked Oil Pan
So, I cracked my oil pan on my h22a4.
Ive been reading and Im 99% sure these are Cast Aluminmum Alloy which can't be welded.
NEW from honda they want $160 w/o shipping
So, I bought some JB Weld.
Has anyone done this before?
How can I get the oil to stop dripping so the JB compound can get a good seal?
I've been told to put tape over the crack and then JB over top the tape...

If patching it up doesn't work out for you, make sure to check out your local scrap yard, and see if you can pull a used oil pan, it will be cheaper than $160.
Either way, good luck.

I would take the pan off and clean that spot from the inside and outside and also JB weld it on both sides. You will **** yourself off trying to glue something that has oil leaking out of it.

Yes, of course, I suffer from the same problem, but most scrap yards are linked together and have a database of parts, they can pull from a different yard... a lot of them even have a site for you to search for the part on the inet.
Try to get yourself a free account at this official Honda parts website:

You should be able to see what it would cost new and you could save on shipping if you say you want to pick it up at a Honda dealership near you.
I know I could get parts cheaper then the dealership would be asking for because you save on shipping and the part doesn't cost as much as the dealer says.
But if your not looking for a new one then try to get one elsewhere. Wouldn't know where to get a used one except from a junk yard.

says who? you can weld cast aluminium...you just need to be really ******* careful. How big is the crack, and where? If it's not too bad, just send it to me and I'll weld it for you.

jb weld might work but risky my understanding is that jb weld is stronger if you apply it over a larger surface area have it cover more than the area needed
check welding and fab forum they would know if its repariable
try http://www.car-part.com
its like a junkyard search
otherwise ebay it

I dont know if i would trust repairing your oil pan with JB weld. Maybe if it was actually welded that would be fine but something like that would make me nervous and thats kinda putting your whole engine on the line. If the repair breaks again while driving you could end up having to buy a whole new engine. If it were me i'd get it welded right or else spend the cash to get the new one. Just my thoughts on the matter.

x2, jb weld is a great temporary fix, but i would not consider it a permanent fix.

get a new one, it is a vital feature of ur car if u cheapout u could end up ruining ur motor and what is that gonna cost u?
make sure u pick up some silicone gasket while ur at it.
I just swapped mine last saturday it took me 3 hrs on a lift, 1 hr was waiting for the gasket to dry.
Yes the pan is aluminum, I was surprised by that also.
also, list on the oil pan is just over $200. $160 is a great price that is how much I payed for mine from a local dealership that we have parts discount with.
