blip the gas then try to pop it into first.... if you still have problems, pop it into second, blip the gas then try into first

lots of times the synchros on first and second get turned to trash by people slamming gears and also those who try to shift into first while moving a lot. and then there are those who like to shift without using the clutch . . . VERY FEW people on earth can get away with this, so don't do it! the shift collar also gets pretty abused, although the 1-2 holds up fairly well due to larger size than 3-4 or 5-R.

it could also be worn clutch/pressure plate/flywheel. sounds to me like this is the ticket. lots of times a worn clutch disc or PP or flywheel will cause hard shifting such as you describe. thankfully, clutches are cheap, if not easy to replace. get the flywheel resurfaced while you're in there.

Could be the gear bearings.

It's because there is no synchro on first gear. You should only shift into first while you are 100% stopped. otherwise you will mess up your tranny.

i'm guessing you've never taken apart a transmission, either. yes, first gear has a synchronizer ring, just like every other gear including reverse.
