5th Gen Prelude Turn off check engine light
I know it's in the manual, but my manual was soaked by brake fluid, therefore making my book useless. I have already checked my car in at the dealership and found that I had a spontaneous misfire code that causes my light to come on. I did all they told me to do, but the light came on later. I just want to turn the light off. Anyone know how to do it?
PS - I think it might be my spark plugs - running NGK Platinum plugs and wires set. Heard that Hondas don't like anything other than OEM plugs.

The preludes come OEM with NGK Platinum plugs. to reset the light, remove the negative battery terminal for 10mins. then start your car up again and let it idle for a few minutes.

Ahhhh thanks. That was the type of answer I was lookig for. Any idiot would know to take the terminal off, but I don't feel like going through all of that. I thought there was a way you could use your key to do it though.

i would fix the problem if i knew what it was genious. I took it to the dealership multiple times and they told me spontaneous misfire and to get a tune up. got the tune up and it came on later
take out ur cluster and take it apart then use black nail polish to cove the spot repeat till u can shine a flash light threw and see no light then re assemble
Anything you do to turn off the CEL will make it come back on if the problem is still existing. However, if you're just trying to turn it off temporarily, then go to AutoZone and have them clear the code with their $40 scan tool.

If you wanna know what the problem is, how about using the check engine jump wires
Once you let us know exactly what the problem is, then we can help

That's just the maintenance reminder that comes on every 7500? miles.. He's talking about the check engine light.

exactly, what code are you getting?

You are not using premium most likely if you're getting that code.
I didn't use premium for ONE fillup and my car started acting all weird, ignition lag and all, CEL came on, leaked oil, wow.
USE FREAKING PREMIUM.
10 extra cents, you find it on the ground

LOL I have to use that crappy tool every day at work... it actually costs about $150.00. But you are correct, it will delete the troublecode and thus turn-off the " CHECK ENGINE " light.
My personal opinion is that you need to retrieve the code and start trying to fix it as soon as possible, especially if you are having cylinder misfires. Detonation is not ggod for a motor might I remind you.

I agree with you 100%... Those cheap *** scantools will let you retrieve the code, but that isn't always the answer [no offense to you if you use that at work], if you REALLY want to get at the heart of the problem, you need the $2,000 scan tool that can pull info from EVERY different sensor on the car and really figure what's at the core of the problem...
