Winter preparation tips! Post yours here.
For those of you who actually have to endure the winter
, and are actually driving your modded civic, post some things that you do to prepare for the cold and snow. I know my first two things are: buy a scraper (i'm an idiot and didnt have one last winter, sat in the car for a while till it warmed up and then went out and pounded on the windows till the ice fell off
), and make sure my battery is in good condition for those cold startups.
One question also, is there anything to prepare for the salt on the car? Or just a regular wax maybe?

My winter preperation:
Raise car up, adjust coilovers to 4x4 heights.
Remove front lip.
Top-off radiator fluid.
Re-attach windshield wipers... and add ice-melter to washer reservoir.
Struggle to find my ice-scraper for at least a half-an-hour.
Throw two sand-bags into back of hatch.
Take off old wheels, attach freshly rattle-canned steelies w/ Blizzak tires.
Wash and add one more layer of wax.
Pout a little b/c Summer is gone and winter sucks.
Go inside and punch my brother in the arm b/c he didn't stop winter from comming.
Then brush-up on my playstation skills
I got a little carried-away I know

I"m in! oh wait i don't drive my hatch in the winter..... Time to buy another one!
and dang It just snowed here (VT) last nite...we got like 3 inchs out of no-where. So much for ripping the z6 head off the del sol for the mini swap.
Anyways Stock the car up with some jumper cables, Lock Deicers, and Dry Gas. But make sure you don't leave all the lock deicer in the car.. won't help much now would it?!

Hmm, I live in SW PA, and we sometimes get deep snow, but for the most part, I like to leave my car lowered about 2 inches all around. It actually gives you a better center of gravity and more control in my opinion. Just know your roads, and be careful when the snow is deep if you choose to keep yours lowered.
And I do have a question to add to this thread. Kind of dumb but just wondering:
In the winter if your car has been running for a while and the engine is HOT, can you break anything if you were to say, be parked on a heaping snow mound.
For example your oil pan, after a long drive gets extremely hot, and when you park, your pan sets itself on some ice. Could it potentially crack from the drastic temperature change?

My Dad always told me to add a can of liquid heat before the winter really sets in.
Although living in Las Vegas all I can do is point and laugh at your winter people
When I lived in Wisconsin I went through the following;
Salt bags in the trunk;
Shovel in case of emergency;
Heating packs;
Jumper cables;
Snow tires; steelies;

1>Fill the gas tank, wash it, cover it in buddys barn on blocks.
2> Get out lifted Tahoe.
3>Bitch about gas prices while driving Tahoe and charge people for pulling them out of the ditch.
When I did drive it. I would raise the coil overs up most of the way. Stuff cardboard in front of radiator, so it would heat up faster. Throw the stealies on with the knarliest tires I could find that fit them. Squirt used motor oil in open orfices on the bottom of the car. Wax it real good. Add winter washer fluid to it.

i would say if it is hott enought it will melt the ice before anything. like put ice in your hand... your body temp is not as hot as the engine at all and the ice melts pretty fast in your hand. Manifactures had to already think about it. otherwise warrenty cars would be up there ***.
Also for poeple who use water instead of actually rad fluid... if its cold enought to snow its cold enought to freeze your custom 'rad fluid' (aka water *cough*) and crack things such as your rad it self and your block.

One of the motors I had in my CRX fell victim to this. I bought it during winter months, the previous owner was a 'nice guy' and 'topped all my fluids for me'.....
He failed to mention, when he said fluids.... he really meant water.
I guess it was screeming for a new motor anyway.
