Default Lost Motion Assembly, Rocker Arm or simply "lifter" ?

Hello guys, my 01 prelude has a ticking noise round 2700 to 3000rpm (only). However i've been hearing an exess of noise from the valves, besides the ticking. On my previus post many told me it could be some "timebelt tensioner" but the guys on the local part store say no way, its the Lifter.

I know hondas don't have convetional valve lifters, and I searched for this topic, My question is will the ticking from the Rocker Arm or Lost Motion Assembly or simply lifter ever go away without a replacement? will a simple valve tune do it?? if i do have to replace it, is there any upgrade avalible?

anyways, do i have to replace it? Could it be a bent valve? the engine runs fine although it idles a litle rough but no lost power or stall i think it hapened last weekend after missing a gear and revs gone way too high...

your help is greatly appreciated

Start with a valve adjustment.

The damage has already been done, that's if there was/is any. By the way, did you over-rev the engine???

After a valve adjustment, if the car still runs crappy, you should consider doing a compression check followed by a leak-down test.

The first test is fairly simple, you'll need a compression gauge.

The second test involves having a special tool (cylinder leak-down gauge-set) and an air-compressor. What you do is set a cylinder at TDC (top dead center) and apply around 100 PSI of air into the combustion chamber. On the tool, it'll show you how much leakdown you have, meaning air escaping from the combustion chamber. You can also listen for air leaks, like say if you hear air coming out of the throttle body, you have a bent intake valve, if you hear air coming out of the exhaust, then you bent an exhaust valve, if you hear air coming from the dipstick/oil fill hold, then you have excessive blow-by (bad piston rings), etc.

Any good shop should have those tools to diagnose your prob.

yeh man, i really over reved it this time after a missed gear

so all of these probable other problems could had occurred from the bad lifter?
the car still runs pretty good, just as good as it did before, the ticking is the only thing i can notice besides a bad throw out bearing (new clutch kit coming in).

go get a valve adjustment. and ask them just to make sure nothing looks bad in there. you wont know if a valve adjustment was the problem until you do it. and either it fixed it or not.

could be your lma's theres a way to check them in the honda service manual.
