My new exhaust...3"DP, 3" HF Cat....4" back...**PICS**
So, where to begin....I had a tonne of 4" piping, 4" Mandrel bends and a 4" muffler I got sometime last year.. It was taking up all my space since I have a boat load of other piping everywhere..lol.
I wanted to do a new exhaust setup, and I had everything but the cat. so I bought a cat and did the rest. If I would of went 3" to dual 2.5" pipes to dual mufflers, i would of had to buy a cat, 2 mufflers and 2 tips.
Not to mention I think dual exhaust is stupid on a car setup like the these with 1 pipe back then a Y..anyways..on to some pics.
I tried to make everything line up really good and not cheat any of the bends, everything was done by me with the car on jackstands in the garage so it was a lot of bolting, measuring, unbolting, welding, bolting measuring, etc. I did the measuring, cutting, welding, everything.
only thing i'm not still happy with is that transition piece from 3" to 4", I'll see about getting a proper one.
As you can see it's 3" aluminized downpipe, HF cat, 3" aluminized to a custom made transition to 4" aluminized then goes around the gas tank and the 4" aluminized ends. Then it's 4" stainless back to the 4" straight through muffler.

LOVE my TIG welder.

so I finished at 10pm last night, and got home it was dark tonight..so i'll have daytime pics tomorrow, the exhaust sits at a "Slight" angle, not rice at all, no other way of doing it without going RIGHT under the suspension and it sits right in the middle of the opening.
Sounds insane, I love it, really not as loud as I thought it would sound at all.
Did I mention I'm putting a turbo on in the spring....? That might help. lol
Sorry for the long *** post, I'm tired, what do you think? "Overkill" much?
P.S. What kinda car is this on?

I was thinking that thing must sound awfully weed-whackerish on a Honda but it's on a GTP so it might just actually sound mean as hell
BTW, aren't GTPs already boosted (supercharged) ?

why yes they are 3800's with eton super chargers and kick out i think 10psi of boost stock but can be modded for more my buddy is running 12 psi on his and its quick i guess it hits high 14's like 14.9's we just removed a u bend from his exhasut that gm puts in but if this doesnt sound bad i think we might just do a systme like this but with out a canister muffler
let me know if you can get me a sound clip
let me know if you can get me a sound clip
With my mods now I'm at 14.2, that's with very little mods.
But with a turbo rather then the supercharger, I'll be in the 12's..

what does your gtp have??? what size pully??? and is there a front mount??? exhuast??? well besides this one lol tell me!!!!!!!
were making my buddy a new intake becosue the ebay crap he has sucks then were getting a front mount and tuning it with a apexi safcII its installed we jsut need to get this other stuff on then we dyno tune it
also were getting a smaller pully it has a 3.4" currently but hey why not go smaller lol
good luck with the turbo they seem sick lol i alwasy thought a custom intake manifold and a turbo would be cool but he doenst want me to take off the super charger he says it ruins the point of the gtp emblems lol but the kit your getting is probly the one that you take of the nose and cap the supercharger there and just use it as a intake manifold am i correct???
and last but not least sorry for the randomness of all that lol and the runon sentanceness of it all lol

What front mount are you putting? You can't get a front mount IC with the stock blower.
SAFCII? What's the point? Get a DHP ecu or the power tuner, for $399 you can tune everything.
Ebay intakes suck. mine is a 4" Mandrel bent SS FWI with a 9" long 4" inlet K&N.
Car is on the road for the next 2 weeks then coming off for winter. Pulling motor so I can port the heads and install a cam over winter.
I'm doing the kit myself, not caping off he blower, rather I'm using a modified RWD 3.8L intake manifold.

If the engine mounts were stiff enough, why would you need a flex section ? I'm not taking sides, but I have built a few exhaust systems where a flex section was not needed because of the engine mounts used.
And I have actually seen some cars come from the factory with no flex pipe installed in the exhaust system at all.
To the original poster, where did you get the piping near the back ? Looks good from what I can see in the pictures.

I have seen a car with filled mounts still crack an exhaust without a flex pipe, it is essential for longevity.

Exactly...
When you have something as long and heavy as a full 3" cat back exhaust, it is going to be very stressfull on it over time with multiple heat cycles, vibrations, engine movement...ect.
Just look at it from this perspective...Would you rather weld in a cheap flex section, or have your exhaust crack and have to make a ghetto repair job only to have it crack again in the future.

You guys do bring up a good point
, I usually do use flex sections unless the customer does not want one, which unfortunately happens a lot.
