To weld or not to weld??? -- need opinions on DP crack repair/replace!!!
Im not a welder, and I dont have any close friends that are either so I would have to take this to a shop and pay to have it done-- but my question is does this even look like its worth having it welded??? Ive had this DP on here for about 2 years, and I recently bottomed out hard and cracked the hell out of it. Its a pretty big crack, and it splinters off from the main crack in a few places too. Im thinkin about having just the flange and the whole part that curves down off of the turbo redone, or maybe even the whole thing. It was never the best, but it worked fine. What do you guys think?? Also, its a 2.5" outlet on the turbo and it flares immediately to 3" in about a half inch distance, and its a HUGE pain in the *** to get the bolts on the turbo, whats a better setup for a 2.5" to 3" DP??? What pipe material and thickness is the best to use too? Any input would be appreciated, thanks.
it worth welding if you cant get another DP!
it looks like it broke due to some improper hanging of exhaust, and or weight issues. it really shouldnt be more than 20 bux, on the high side

personally, i'd replace the whole thing. go with stainless for the new pipe. if you try to repair it, it may crack again, and it will look like *** with weld beads all over it. not sure what a shop might charge you to get it fixed, but i can't imagine them doing that great a job and they probably wouldn't give you any kind of guarantee that it wouldn't crack again due to the fact that they only fixed it, not built it.
good luck.
good luck.
yeah theres flex pipe on the DP right before it meets the exhaust, about how much would a stainless steel DP like this cost me? This one hangs too low, the flex pipe is all scraped up on the bottom...Its only like 3" from the ground

I would get a tapered transition

I would repair it for 20 bucks, that would involve stripping it down to bare metal and welding it back up.
yeah I saw those transitions from burns, but I dont have the time to order it, wait for it to come in, take it to the shop thats 1hr away, wait for him to have time to do it, and they pay out the *** for the new one. So I just dropped it off at a place thats going to weld it up for me. I will be getting a new DP sometime, but this will do for now.
No offense to you, and I understand you needed it ASAP and this may just be a temporary fix, AND, it was free, but I just wanted to say something...I honeslty do not know how welding businesses stay in business! That job there is horrible if you ask me. Yes it will probably hold, and it'll work for you, but although appearance isnt everything, it sure is SOMETHING to consider when you run your own business.

It wasnt a company, it was just my friend. He told me it would look like someone **** in the cracks, but he doubled up on some of them so it would be strong, and it looks like it will hold. Dont worry Im going to cover it with exhaust wrap.
