Broken motor mount
visual inspection as the rubber will be degraded or torn. Most common is hard shifts if it is an automatic. If you ahve an auto check the rear mount to ensure that it is not leaking and that the vacume line is attached and it is properly working.
you could also check for excessive movement from the engine when letting the clutch out in gear(ie start driving) just have the hood up and have a friend look at the engine and let the clutch out a little...

there's a vacuum line to the rear engine mount on an auto 6th gen? wow you learn something new every day. that must be a pain in the *** to check on, my rear motor mount (manual F23) is a major pain in the *** to remove/install.
