throttle body questions
ok on a throttle body, right before the TB plate, theres a hole on the left. what is that called, where does it go to, and why is my idle irratic and then when i plug that hole up it goes back to normal. please respond ASAP its costing me gas
That should be your IACV (Idle Air Control Valve). It lets air inside the manifold even when your throttle plate is closed. This allows your car to idle, or stay on when you're not pressing the gas.
When is your idle erratic? All the time? Or just during cold starts? You most probably have a dirty IACV. Do a general search on it, and you will find a how-to on how to clean it. It has solved most people's idling problems.

Does anyone have any pix of the hole that he is talkin about? I cleaned out my IACV and it didnt help me. Now I am thinking about taking off my throttle body and doing thing http://www.92lude.com/idle_air...d.htm. Can anyone help me? I know this has been covered many times, but I cant find my answer to this and obviously I DID SEARCH.
Sounds like one of "Brady's free mods" from back in the day
Couldnt you just unplug the IAC valve to see if it stops surging? Of course that would throw a check engine light but it should tell you if the iac is being irradic.
