hey, got a question for yall. i have an 04 honda civic vp, or dx. will there be any problems putting an ex exhaust on it? do they make a specific exhaust for each trim level, or would one fit on another? thanks

 

all of the exhaust systems made for 01-05 civics are trim level specific due to the difference in the dx/vp/lx and ex exhaust system. most aftermarket exhaust manufacturers make cat-back systems for the ex only, so if you have a dx/vp/lx you would have to pick up an ex header/exhaust manifold & ex cat. converter in order to make it bolt up. i've also heard of people needing to saw off parts of the rear motor mount in order to prevent the ex header from rubbing on manual transmission versions of the dx/vp/lx.

however, there are alternatives to avoid all that work. i know espelir makes a full cat-back jgt500r exhaust system for the dx/vp/lx (other brands make full cat-back systems for the dx/vp/lx, but only lower end types (e.g.: greddy sp2 (not evo2), apex ws2 (not n1))) also, a brand called kamikaze makes a header specifically for the dx/vp/lx.

also, tanabe racing development makes a dx/vp/lx extension pipe so their ex specific exhaust systems can bolt up to dx/vp/lx models. i don't know if this extension pipe can work with other brands of exhaust, but it most likely can. you would still be stuck with the cat. converter in the exhaust manifold, but at least you'll have ulev emissions and nice pipes.

personally, i would just go with the espelir jgt500r. you get the looks, the name, and the sound without sacrificing reliablity, emissions, and an engine check light staying off.

and if you're asking, "what about performance?" my answer is...
"you own a civic. suspension and weight reduction are your friend. the only ways you'll achieve noticable power are motor swap (e.g.: k20, k24, b16, b18) or turbo."
