hey i have a 96 dx hatchback... my car has no tach so i go solely off my mph... but i wanna make sure im shifting wen im supposed to... wen i go max speed i usually go 35 in first then shift to second.. i was wondering if this was the best speed... if not could you tell me wat is please... another problem i have is if i rev my engine at almost the peak of my rev i can hear a ringing or almost a whistling sound... any ideas of wat this could be... any info or advice would be great...

 

in each gear, step on the gas until it doesnt accelerate anymore. remember how fast you were going, shift right before then next time. do this until you are happy. i think you will find the end of 3rd gear. find yourself a EX cluster, they are cheap and plug right in.

 

first of all i would say do some research on ur motor and see what the redline is... if u want to go to the junk yards, or look around on HT and other sites to find a EX cluster, or any of the clusters that will fit ur model car and that have a tach on them.... and if u have an intake on ur car, that could be a whistling u r hearing

 

just buy a tach. there's tachs out there for 50 bucks used.

 

pfft! dont buy a tach. switch out your cluster for one that has an rpm gauge in it.

dont put those stupid huge tachs. i hate those things
