Default Time for a new heart! (96/97 or 98+ JdM R)

Figured being an R motor I have questions about, The Integra R forum would be better suited then All-Motor or Hybrid.

Ok so I am finally going to go against what I said I wasnt going to do again and order another motor; this time for my dc2.

My question is this: Which to get?

Hmotorsonline will be the source for the swap and I will be purchasing the complete change over package. However, there is a 400.00 difference between the 96/97 and the 98+ Jdm R motors. Just wondering if you guys had to choose, which whould you go with? (Considering speculations on obd1 responding better to aftermarket parts vs. Several internal mods done to the 98+ Jdm motors)

Thanks Guys

BTW: Pic is just there so pic ****** will take a peek.

Would love to.......BUT

I will have just enough money to do the stuff I need with the car by purchasing the B18c . The price for the motor, mount kit, wiring, and other **** would take up too much time and money. (Doing the swap on my own)

Just for *****; Is it too late to buy a B18c motor with what BS 22 suggested is out there now on the market?

98 is when Honda improved the ITR engine, i'd say go for that one, more power and whatnot, if you have the 400 bucks extra that is.

Could you please explain that to me? They are basically the same, header is different FD is different but to answer the question I would personally get the 98+ are you getting the trans as well or just the engine? I would still prefer the 98 as you get the better header

You really can't go wrong with either, but I would probably go with the 98 spec motor if you can spend the extra $400. It's newer and it has the header, final drive and most likely less miles.

Header, Cams(slightly), FD and possibly less mileage. Thats worth the price difference to me.

I know what your saying but he states "better" I don't necessary say it's "better" it really depends on what your after. The HP rating is the same. I thought though that the JDM ITR cams were all the same and only the USDM cams had a slight change from 98 to 00. I agree with it being worth it. But it didn't state if he got the trans with it as well.

Agreed. I think that if I am already paying the price I might as well get what I really want.

Ohh and Dave, I will be purchasing the complete swap package:

- Motor
- LSD Hydraulic Tranny (S80)
- ECU (P73)
- Axles with Half Shaft
- Shift Linkage
- Stock Motor Mounts *
- Alternator
- Starter
- Clutch
- Flywheel
- Intake Manifold
- Exhaust Manifold
- Fuel Rail
- Injectors
- Distributor
- Engine Harness
- Comes With All Sensors Needed

BTW has anyone ordered from them in awhile? Just wondering how recent their site has been updated and do they really have these motors "ready to go" still. Seems to me these motors should be a rare item in the next couple years or so with the K's.

What year car are you putting this in? If this is going in a type r then you will be able to gain some money back. I take it your other motor is blown, you still have the trans? Take one trans and sell it. All the mounts, shift linkage, ecu, and misc. crap you can sell. What are your intentions with this motor? Stock? Build? You also dont want and older motor in your car. If you have a 2000 ITR then you dont want to put a 97 motor in there.

Ok many questions; To Address:

car: 95 integra gsr
motor: obd1 ls w/b16 tranny (Tansmission has ls 5th gear)

I traded my gsr hatch for the car and the motor and tranny had been installed by the previous owner due to a blown oem gsr motor, so dont ask me "Why would you downgrade".

Intentions: Seeing as I am a college student and working 35hrs a week, I am going to keep the motor stock w/bolt-ons for now with head work later down the road. Basically I miss Vtec (I know I am a ricer) and I am tired of having a relatively slower car then I previously owned.

Parts I will be selling:
-Motor/Tranny (Act clutch)
-DC intake
-Thermal Exhaust
-Jdm Dc 4-1
-Tockico Blue Shocks
-Eibach Springs
-Misc. Motor mounts, Shift linkage, chipped ecu, etc.

Why wouldnt I want an older motor or in my case a newer motor in an older car if I will be acquiring a wiring harness and ecu with the complete change over?

In some states it is illegal to put an older motor in a newer car. You wont have to worry about that since you cant get a 94 b18cR. I personally wouldnt put a older motor in my 2000 if something were to happen(knocking on wood).

So you have a JDM 4-1? It really doesnt matter what motor you get since you have a obd1 harness. I would stick with obd1 since thats whats in your car. However you will need to wire some things up since you harness is non-vtecH. Whatever motor you get you will be trashing or reusing some wires from that harness(RHD). If you do get a 96 or 97 motor than you can switch out the crappy exhaust manifold for the 4-1. That way your exhaust will still bolt up.

There might be some more but post your thoughts, I'll respond

My harness will be sold with the motor since I am getting the engine harness with the swap. Everything I need will come with the complete package so I can just plug and play....right?

When I did my jdm gsr swap, there was no harness, so I used my civic one and had to add a few wires to the mix. But with this I should have everything I need and since its integra to integra it should be a breeze.

Please post if I am missing something.

Thanks

Go with the 98 spec motor. Steve gets some very good low mileage motors. I got a 00 JDM ITR motor from him and I couldn't have been happier. Like others said, you get the header, the 4.7 tranny, and less miles.

I was just there on Friday, they've got JDM ITR motors everywhere.

You could possibly use the harness from the JDM motor but it will be an extreme PITA. The jdm harness is set up for right hand drive, meaning all the connections will be swapped. So you will need to find a harness, preferrably a obd1 VTEC harness.

Yea I think I still have the gsr harness b/c there are alot of un-used connections in the engine bay. Is there anyway to confirm a wiring harness?

Also If I go with the 98+, will I need an obd2-obd1 conversion, or will I just be able to splice the obd2 jdm wiring harness?

I was in the same position as you about two months ago. "96spec or pay a little more for a 98 spec?" IMO the extra $400 is worth it for the 98 spec motor.

Just in from HMO 3 weeks ago. Came out of a 00' JDM ITR w/21k miles....

I'm very happy with their service. Shipping was also much cheaper than expected at $250 to Hawaii (2-3 weeks).
