AC control
My Accord 96 AC/Temperature control dial all of a sudden seems to have been detached from the stuff behind it, there's little resistence when I turn it, and there's no heat coming out of the vent even when I turn it to the extreme end of the red zone. The AC can be turned on though, but it's going to be winter. Any one has similar experience and can shed some light? Thanks
The AC/Htr Temp Control works like this:
Really cheezy (Easily broken) **** attaches to a white nylon shaft with a bevel gear which
2) Attaches to a white nylon geared arm which moves a cable in / out which
3) Goes to a lever (bellcrank) on the heater case which attaches too:
4) A second cable which goes to the hot water valve.

Water valve detail: (attention to #1)

The short of it: ?
Have a friend eyeball the Hot Water Valve (under the hood, on firewall) and watch for cable movement as you operate the control ****. If he sees no movement, expect to disassemble your dashboard. If you're lucky, the cable broke at the HWV.
Hope this helps,
P

pull the heater **** and look at the back side to see if it is cracked , if so, put a new **** and retry , if **** is ok,, then listen to P-Adams
Agreed.... the most common problem is a broken ****.... check it out. Also look into the cable itself... if it is binding, you will probably break the new ****. Good luck.
I broke two ***** before I figured out that if you turn the **** slowly, (don't put too much pressure on it while turning) it will not crack. I would turn it about half way, let it set for a couple of seconds, the cable would loosen up, and I could turn it the rest of the way. Worked great for a long time. Did'nt want to dig the cable out of there to lube it up.
