Default Are brake lights necessary?

I had a strange thing happen yesterday... my battery went flat.
We bump started it, and that's when we noticed the brake lights were
always on.

Turns out, I lost the little plastic stopper pad that pushes the brake light
switch. Must be all that high-g cornering + left foot braking.

Quick fix, was to duct tape a dime into position. However, I considered
disconnecting the brake lights altogether. What do you think?

It's all good until someone runs into the back of you.

The only problem you will have is that you will be black flagged each session you go out. If this little annoince doesn't bother you........

I was behind the Entropy cars at Summit two weeks ago, and they didn't have brake lights at all that I could tell. I hated being behind them because of that.

hi.

they have one small brake light, mounted in the middle.

i think they only brake for T1 and T5 (very little bit of braking!). the rest is all either flat out or lifting a little bit in those spec renaults!

If tech doesn't catch it, expect to get meatballed.

I was on their *** through T10 and coming into T1...got point-bys coming onto the front straight and out of T2. And Todd, they do have one? It must be tiny. I sure didn't see it, even at T1.

We don't run brake lights or mirrors at motorcycle trackdays/races.

I think Jeff's just warming up for F1.

Nope. I was surprised too, and I sure don't think it was my talent involved there, but rather maybe a lack of theirs. Whatever the case, bigger brake lights would've been nice.

i'm pretty sure they have a single brake light in the center of the car, near the main hoop.

the spec racer fords/renault run about 1:25 laps at summit. the better ones.

James and I were racing around with one at the NASA race last month. He was pretty well matched to our H4 cars. Considering we were running 1:31s, I am not sure whether to feel good about that or not!

dammit, I gotta find 3 seconds in the off season between car setup and driving skillzors. Maybe it's time to go hit All-sports during the off season.

You can just pretend you are either a Formula car or Stock car, either of which don't run brake lights.
