Default ok toss me ideas....car cranks "when it wants to"

ok so i sit in my car, put the key into the ignition, i turn it all the way and i hear the fuel pump prime then silence.....hold it there.....hold it there....hold it there....(underdash)CLICK(/underdash) then it starts...sometimes takes 5 seconds, sometimes works instantly, someitmes takes up to 5 mins....

so what? main relay?? but the fuel pump primes...? im at a loss, what can i do short of trying a new main relay?

possible bad ignition switch or a starter relay...
Also maybe a bad clutch switch...

i don't know....thats something...
it could be your main relay, but another thing that just happed to pop in my head was to check your ground to your starter...maybe it's lose and has a bad connection...then dep. on how your car is sitting it's worse then others

just a thought

top of the clutch pedal assy. one wire coming in, one wire coming out. Pull the plug and bypass the switch.

bad ground/connection or discharged battery

make sure your battery is good, and clean up and tighten those battery terminals

I'd bet it's your main relay... It serves as the starter relay.

It's just a 2 wire momentary switch... it should be pretty straight forward...

If you have a test light just test both wires with it not depressed and then both with it depressed... if they're the same both ways then it's busted.

I'd lean more towards a starter solonoid or relay... doesn't sound like a switch problem.

My Del Sol Was doing the exact same thing for awhile and it turned out to be a wire plug was loose ( the closest one to the clutch pedal) just make sure everything down there has been plugged in correctly.. if they're all good then Do all the above ^^
