can i run 2 12" jl w3 d6 subs w/ the jl 500/1 class d amp? what amp can i use to run them. dont know **** bout this. i went to jl's page and printed off the info and i can run to 2 12"s at a 1.5ohm load? um...yah? well does this mean anything to you guys? if not what amp should i use?

yes, you can run any 2 JL woofers made (except the 13w7's) on a JL 500/1

yeah thats a pretty decent amp. . you shoud be able to run your 12's

 

would that put a strain on his alternator? couldn't he use the 1000/1 jl amp too or would that be too big? why dont you get an extant amp? i hear they are nice, dont know which one, but ask around, maybe someone here would help

 

you can get a 1 farad bass capacitor for that 1000/1 and you shouldnt have any worries about the alternator or lights dimming.. as for y not Xtant.. those are freakin bank man... y not get a McIntosh then?

 

just a little FYI for you guys. xtant was bought out by MTX last year and they turned to crap. The engineers that designed the older xtant amps were hired by JL to design the current amps which are similar in a lot of ways to the xtants, but with several upgrades and changes. JL didn't skimp on their amps at all and because of the size and marketing of the company, they were able to keep cost reasonable.

 

so mugen, you're saying jl is a good choice? the stereo shop i go to mostly caries jl and clarion and he has always pushed me toward jl. he also told me that about the fact the jl workers were from xtant and that also they designed lightning audio too, but the look stupid and my first amp was a LA to power 2 10"w0's. so should i just buy the 500/1 cause i tihnk i can get it off ebay for round $400. or should i get the 1000/1? thanks for the help so far

 

Mugen....I was under the impression that the original Xtant amps were designed by Robert Zeff, the same person who was head of the design team for the orignal PPI amps along with the older Zapco, who then left to design Arc with Nikola Engineering.........correct me if I'm wrong, because noone can give me a straight answer. It seems like there are a few main guys who were switching design teams, meaning some went from PPI to Xtant, while some others chose a different path, etc.

From what I understand the old Xtant amps and the JL's are completely different beasts....
