Cat-backs: Which one?
Hey guys. I've been thinking about cat-backs lately. I'm not planning on getting one until spring, but I want to get an idea of what I should get. So far, I've heard a lot of good stuff about the APex'i N1s.
However, I really don't want any fart cans or anything that sound too ricey. Other than that, however, I don't care about sound. Mostly, what I want, are the highest gains.
Looking at a site testing different cat-backs for a 350Z, the N1 scored as one of the lowest in horsepower gain. I know horsepower gain from a cat-back isn't that significant, but I would like to squeeze the most I can from this. I'm looking to spend a reasonable amount of money, no more than what you might pay for an N1.
So can anyone direct me to some brands and/or models of cat-backs that give the highest proven gains on a Prelude SH?
And, I know I just said, I don't care too much about sound, but just in case, if you have sound clips of a cat-back, please post them!
Thanks.

There is so little HP gain from a cat-back-ALONE- that you are left with appearance and sound to consider. With that said take a long look at the Thermal R&D. Our worked very well on the 5th gen as to both looks -stock like all stainless and sound-deep rumble at idle no buzz at WOT. Thermal makes no specific claim except that their setups do help improve performance on a dyno a little. Want pictures-send me an e-mail.
Do any exhausts come with a 2.5" bore? or are all aftermarket systems 2.5?
Reason I ask is that I'm looking to go 2.5" right through.
Tnx

I take it that most of those pineapple shooters sound pretty ricey, with that obnoxious loud buzz that the N1 seems to give off. The WS2 also looks a lot nicer with that more conservative look, however, I think that one exhaust pipe may even increase backpressure, rather than the two that the Prelude has, defeating the whole purpose of installing this. I know that it isn't all in the muffler, but I'm afraid that one pipe may hurt me still. Let me know what you guys think.
(I hate to be picky, but I do want something that doesn't look or sound too ricey, while giving me a good performance gain).

its outside diameter is 2.5", atleast thats what leo said about his. It's not a true 2.5" exhaust.
if i could do it all over again, i would go kteller 2.5" with a magnaflow muffler.

Regarding twin-pipe vs. single-pipe mufflers, even if an aftermarket muffler only has one tip, it will be larger in diameter than the factory Prelude exhaust, and besides, the inside of the muffler is much more free-flowing than stock.
I'm fairly sure, single-tip or double, anyaftermarket exhaust will be better than stock, or at least couldn't possibly be worse

Tubing gets measured by it's OD, not ID. So if someone states they have a 2-1/2" exhaust they should be talking OD.

For those interested in a decent bolt-up cat-back Apexi World Sport 2 you can go to http://www.optionsauto.com. it is on sale for $407. When I was looking for an exhaust that is one of the better prices I found for the WS2.
