Default Hitting Red Line?

If I'm driving, and I'm in third and drop it into first and give it gas and I hit red-line for maybe 4 seconds can it cause any damage?

I don't really think it helps you to go from 3rd to 1st. Just match revs and down shift to 2nd. The amount of time your going to spend jerking from going from 3rd to 1st wouldn't be worth it you'd be losing time.

Its not good on your tranny/clutch or the mounts to jerk like that. Match revs go to second your car will love you long time and you'll be going faster anyways.

It was to stop as fast I could but, I hit gas by mistake I have been driving standard for about 2 weeks

this old man got pissed at me, cause I honked my horn at him because he almost took off my front bumper cutting me off, then he went for a bit then hit his brakes so I just layed on my horn for 10 seconds behind him, I went to pass him but he started to swerve in and out of the lanes so I couldn't go.... so he would brake and go speed up swerve non stop, So I was in 3rd, and I need some power so I put it into 1st and gave it to much gas and it hit redline.. for a bit, like 5 seconds till I realized and immediatly pushed the clutch.. and put it back into third and turned... I couldn't be bothered to continue with the old man's games considering I had my gf in my car

I would not shift from 3rd to 1st. You can pass the redline if your not carful and then goes your motor.

If your car is still running fine and this was a one time accident I would assume that you didn't do any major damage. You might have just worn a few things down a bit quicker then normal but seeing as this was a one time thing, no biggy.

But what other people said is true; skipping gears very quickly is not the best of ideas, downshifting into first is also not the best of ideas.

Now here is the real question: You said you hit redline....does that mean you just grazed the redline or did you go well above and beyond the readline? You can do this easily when downshift. Red line = no damage, well above red line can mean something totally else. Get to know your redline speeds for each gear, it should help when down shifting cause some idiot is in front of you.

Also look at it this way, unless you feel your car behave differently (which I understood it as not) the only way to tell if you really did damage something is to tear the motor and tranny apart which will probably cost you as much as if somethign does break in the long run.

hopefully that will help you a little.

Sounds like you need to learn to match revs.

when ur in a situation like that... shift to 2nd.... kick up the rpms to like 1-3 thousand more than what it was at in 2rd gear, then release the clutch...then hammer it

3rd to 1st isn't good if you're trying to pick up speed. Unless you're putting along at 1500 RPM while in 3rd.
Sounds like you were trying to be a ricer and show him how bad *** your vtec'in skillz were.

He doesn't say how fast he was going but here are the max speeds for each gear according to the owners manual for your car...

1st 35mph
2nd 59mph
3rd 89mph
4th 120mph
5th top speed

moral of the story is that you don't want to be in any of those gears faster than those speeds. And down shifting into first at any speen greater than 15-20mph you should rev match.

sorry if you guys misunderstood i went to 1st to downshift, not to gain speed I wanted to slow down as quick as possible with the help of brakes but I was going a bit to fast downshifting along with that I hit the gas pedal, which hit the rpm's even up higher...
so you guys don't flame me this was my stupidity, i'm still learning to drive proper it takes some time getting used to
