you can use different ignitors from different cars. the ignitor is the small square piece right? i used a 98 ex ignitor on my 92 hatch.. so you might want to give them an earlier year?

I've been a Honda technician for 3 years now and even though i think Hondas are the most reliable cars on the road with the best quality parts, they have always seemed to have a problem with distributors. I've replaced countless ignitors, coils and even some dist. bodies. Even though i would never recomend replacing anything that wasn't broken, i understand where you're coming from cause i've been left stranded a couple times for fried coils and such. I'd say 99% of the dizzy parts i've replaced were from cars with more than 120K miles on them. However, i've rarely seen blown ignitors. Usually it's the coil that goes bad first, but that's just been my experience. Others may disagree. Personally i keep an extra coil in my tool box in the trunk, along with spare belts and thermostat and yadyadayada....

I had not driven my car for 4 1/2 months and when I went to start it there was no spark. I ended up getting another used distributor and taking the ignitor out of it and putting it on my. Started right up. It seems like everyones distributors now days are starting to take a ****. My car had 240,000 miles. I would definately say change it before then lol

I was a honda tech for a year and I saw more igniters failing than anything. Of course they were usually intermittent failures and the only way we could guarantee a fix was to replace the coil/igniter and main relay...I had a bunch of extra parts that i would try and it seemed like most if not all the coils were ok but the igniters would all act up...
Id put in a "questionable" igniter and it would work for a few days before I would get a no spark condition...

Ive used accord, D series/B series/H series igniters in my distributor and they all worked fine for me...

I dont know why the different prices. The only difference that ive seen is the mount plate the igniter sits on. Sometimes you may have to put a different mounting plate to attach the igniter...

maybe because the demand for the civic ignitor is greater than accord

Bad plug wires will kill a dizzy. Pulling a plug wire while the engine's running will kill it too. Basically when you pull a plug or have bad wires, the voltage requirements to spark the plug shoot up. It's common to pop the ignitor or pretty much anything that gets in the way when you do this.

Hard to believe some idiots still trouble-shoot by pulling plug wires on a running engines.

I typically keep a spare dizzy in the car when I drive any significant distance. Then again I tend to be paranoid about these things too.
