Default I think my timing belt jumped some teeth? please help

Ok. guys I am experiencing some issues with my car. ill start from the timeline

3 weeks ago I noticed some rough idleing at stop lights while in neutral... the car would gurgle and the rpm's would go from 200-1000. but died on my once or twice.. the other times it would just sputter, but regain its composure.

that happened for 2 days then mysterisly went away.

Tonihgt I was driving the car and was at about 7-8 thousand RPM in 3rd.. I slowed down heel-toe to second.. then came to a stop. The car idled fine for about 2 minutes in traffic.... then all at once the car started to gurgle and the RPM's were going up and down from 200- 1000 agian and then died. I restarted the car and it started up fine, however 2 seconds later it did it agian and died.

1- car would rev if i gave it gas...but once i let off of the gas it would die out.
2- car restarted up fine each time.
3-car felt like it had no power
4- oil light was NOT on.
5- full tank of freshhhhh " 15 minute old 93 octane

Well at this point i was in the parking lot of which I needed to be " I had a date" so I parked and and said f*ck it,..... ill deal with it when I get done. When I come back to the car I started it up agian.. and it started fine.. idled fine....... and then was fine.. I drove it home at 2k Rpm the whole time...and it was not experiencing any of the symptoms that I listed above.

so could this be that the timming belt jumped a tooth?

could it be a bad fuel delivery problem?

could the plugs and wires just be old and funked up? NOTE: checked plugs about 1 week ago they were a whitesh grey.

also the car has 77 k for milage..guys all the help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

MIke

i had the same problem when i missed a shift and revved too high.i bent some valves and spun a bearing.i fixed all that and it had good power but i never could get it to idle right.it wont cut off anymore but it goes down to about three or 4 hondred then jumps back up to 1200rpms.first thing would be to do a compression test,it should be around 230-240

so why don't you go set the crank at TDC, pull the valve cover off, and check. then you might actually be able to start diagnosing, as opposed to thinking.

I don't feel that you jumped any teeth. I would say it either has to be fuel/ignition/or maybe dirty IAC, but if your plugs are grey then I would say it is a fuel/ignition issue. Your plugs being a white/grey means you are running lean. What kind of plugs and plug wires do you have? If all of this happened right after you put gas in it is very possible you got some bad gas! You may want to consider using some Honda Top end cleaner or the similar product from Redline.
If you jumped a tooth it wouldn't be inconsitant like that it would be constant, and it wouldn't feel normal ever.

ok...

So i pulled the valve cover and turned the crank

Both of the camgears "mark on gear" line up perfectly... I got down low and had my head on the same plane as the cam gears and they are perfectly lined up, tension on the belt is also good.

so does this now throw out the theory of the belt jumping teeth?

I checked the plugs they look normal... like a greyish white, a little black at the bottom....I would post pics but my camera is in use by my brother.

so could this be a dirty injector .. fuel delivery problem... maybe electric....because like I said I drove it home last night and the symptoms were not being shown which is really wierd....

thanks for the help

I think it is your IACV or possibly dirty injectors. Adjust your idle while you're at it.

What is the IACV and where is it located?

The Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) is located on the back of your intake manifold. It often accumulates oily residue from the PCV, which causes it to stick. It is basically a solenoid on a spring, so the computer keeps increasing the applied voltage until it suddenly breaks free, resulting in idle surge or drop. Your car should not stall even if this is sticking, so you may also need to adjust the idle set screw on the throttle body. The IACV can be cleaned by removing it and soaking the flow passages with carburetor cleaner.
