Rotten egg smell?
My dad was taking a ride with me, and he was like Wtf is that smell? Smells like a bad cat. But how can this be? My engine was just fully rebuilt with a complete new exhaust, and a carsound hiflow cat? Does it make this smell when breaking in too?
Thanks.
Thanks.
It could be your ac. In most cases, I have seen that there becomes a mold build up in the ac. Chances are you were going acceptionally fast when you were riding w/your pops right? When you came to a slower speed then you noticed the smell right? If so, I think you could have that mold build up. I think you can get some Risloan to run that through and clean it. Not sure on that though, so find out.
rotten egg smell could be your battery, might sound wierd, but if your alternator is running high and giving off too much, it could be overcharging your battery... do a electrical test to make sure you are getting the right current though anything... good luck

The battery plates can short as well. You would have starting issues in that case.

Check your cat to see if its loose. When mine smelled like eggs, I was almost sure it was my cat, but upon inspection I realized I had an exhaust leak due to 3/6 bolts coming off.
How many miles are on your rebuild? I would run a can of seafoam threw the motor. 1/2 off booster and 1/2 in gas tank. That may take care of the problem and it is a cheap possible sollution.
Rotten egg smell is from unburned gases that increase the temperature in the catalytic converter. Maybee you could also unplug ur battery for ten minutes and then reconnect it to reset the ecu.
Hope one of the two solve the problem.

There's 138 miles on the engine right now. Last time I used Seafoam it made my car worse, this was before rebuild, so I don't touch that stuff anymore.
The second part does sound right, cause it's like. I'll get on it for a minute, then if I come to a long light, after sitting there a min the smell comes up.

I have had this problem every time its cold in the morning. The car isnt fully warmed up and when i get to the light at the top of a long hill, i smell it. I just assume its because the engine is under load for a long time and also that the fuel mixture is rich since the engine is not at normal operating temperature.
If SeaFoam fucked up your car then you did the procedure wrong or your car had major problems to begin with.
As far as the rotten smell goes, I would check for mold from your A/C ducts.

.....i have a wired smell too....but it's because im running rich....does smell somewhat like rotten eggs....don't know how bad your's smell but in my case i love the smell of burnning fule soo it don't bug me much.
Running rich does not smell like rotten eggs.
How do I know?
I run open E-cutout most of the time that I drive (daily).
It's also 10x worse when you're boosted. My clothes smell like it.

I had a bas smell like this too, and found out that it was my fish that I had for lunch 2 months prior that I forgot was in my trunk, and this was in a Legend. To make things worse, it opened and spilled all inside the plastic container.
if its a relatively new cat like you had said the smell is coming from that most likely...ive just ordered one and getting it installed soon and i heard that that is usually the case...they tend to smell for some time until it is broken in, often described as rotten eggy stench...in fact, when i first installed my catback exhaust it would smoke a little and smell like something burning and its basically the preserval lubrications inside from being new burning off
