Cops Piss Me Off!!!
Last night, im cruising around with a bunch of friends of mine. It's like 1am in the morning, and there are about 6 of us cruising together. The 5 other cars i was cruising with had louder exhausts than me and were going about 35 MPH in a 30 MPH speed zone. I was doing 30 because there was a cop behind me.
The ******* cop, decides that he wants to pull me over, and give me a god damn ticket for my exhuast, which is completely legal in New Hampshire. It is under the stated decibal limit of 95 DB.
This cop, who had NO sound meter or anything, gave me an exhuast ticket, saying my car was too loud and that there is a new ordinance in place in that town and i either have to pay 100 dollars or go to court and fight it.
i have not heard of this 94-01 ordinance for new hampshire and this cop was a real dick about it.
i tried explaining to dicky that the car is a pretty loud car stock and that my exhuast was a high quality exhuast and not very loud and blah blah blah
im so pissed off right now!!!
i havent had any tickets for 2 years and i wasnt doing anything wrong and my cars exhuast is completely legal, sound wise
its a T1R catback, 3rd gen
so now, im pissed, because i dont want to put the silencer in the car, because i am going to be installing a turbo soon and i cant limit my cars flow like that with the turbo, and i dont want to put a stock exhaust on
im going to look up this ordinance and go to court and fight this ****.
new hampshire is GHEY! They change the exhuast lawas like every friggin 10 days, and you go out and spend 1k on exhuast **** when they make it legal and then the next day they go and make it illegal and your fucked in the ***!!!
new hampshire
cops wasting my time for 45 mins about bullshit laws when i have a great driving record and not breaking any laws!!

hve fun in court you wont win. they did db test on my friends car when he tried to fight it and hes was a few db over. He had to pay the ticket and fix his car and retest it new hampshire isnt that bad california lws fuckign suck the biggest dick.
pay the ticket, and don't risk it as far as if u are going to turbo the car your exhuast will get a lot quiter with a turbo on, i have an N1 on my car, and that thing was loud as hell, but once i put my turbo on it got really quite, good luck!!

They dont really need to measure it. By the exhaust being loud, its "disturbing the peace." Retarded i know, especially when you have harleys passing you making your ears bleed.
Honestly sounds like you got off light. I had my registration and plates taken away and i wasnt able to drive my car for 2 weeks until the cop saw that i changed my exhaust back to stock. Then the ******* gave me my registration and plates back saying i still need to pay for the tickets. Went to court and got it dropped. In YO FACE coppa!!!!!!

It's the cops discretion, regardless.
DB doesn't mean anything.
Which is why I always run a stock muffler, and never get pulled over
I know in VA, when I got pulled over back in the day with a WS exhaust, I went to court, and I lost because it's their decision

Go to the inspection point and have your car tested, if you think it will pass then you shouldnt have a problem. Get the proper documentation and go to court, the ticket will get thrown out. Yes it takes a couple of bucks and some of your time but you can leave that paperwork in the glove box and the next time you get pulled over, the last ticket you'll get will be an exhaust ticket.
I am a pro cop person til the death. Some cops are dicks, and some take advantage of people that dont know what theyre talking about. If you know the laws and have the proper paperwork you can make the cop look like an *** in front of the whole courtroom, he will think twice about handing out his next exhaust ticket.
I recieved a citation a while back, looked up the laws, printed them out, brought them to court, both the judge and the cop looked at me like I was crazy. But I didnt get a ticket and the judge appoligized for wasting my time.

This is only somewhat true. If you have a super loud and retarded exhaust then you deserve to get a ticket. If you honestly think that its exceptable then you have a chance, if you quit now and never find out, then your only letting the "dick" cop win. We have rights, use them. Everyone bitches about stuff, but doesnt want to do any work. Dont write the **** off, if youre right then fight it!!! Monkey up soldier!!!!!

All this advice is worthless unless its coming from somebody in YOUR STATE. You should find the laws online (I know its super hard to find, but they're out there) and look up the section he wrote you up for. Scrutinize the details of it and see if there is a way to get out of it.
I know in NY, its basically impossible to get out of an exhaust ticket because the law states basically "modifying any stock exhaust system", but maybe they talk about decibels in NH law.
Definately fight it if you have a chance though
Tom - who has gotten 5 exhaust tickets over the past year and a half but has only had to pay for 2

there are no rules about a motorcycles db reading. they can run open header if they wanted, but i dont think it would be the best idea because it would blow on to their legs and burn the **** out of their legs.
just because an exhaust is expensive does not mean it meets the db reading. look at the j's 70rr. straight pipe. it will not meet the db reading.

I had a T1R system on my ITR last summer and that thing was pretty damn loud, that is why they have the silencer for it, to reduce the noise. Just make sure you have all your **** together when you go to court because otherwise your fighting an uphill battle. Good luck

they dont care how loud ur car is stock, they dont care how high quality yoru muffler is, most of the time is always the cops discretion, and you can obviously see he couldn;t give a flying expletive what you had to say. pay the ticket or waste your time and goto court and pay the ticket, your call.

From the research I've done on Exhausts in NH, motorcycles do have laws. @ 20 inches away at a 45 degree angle and the bike revved to 3500 the db's cant be over 105.

FYI- Mosted wanted criminals are found by traffic stops.. by some petty thing wrong with their car.. Some of the top dawgs were caught this way.. no by investigation.. but by speeding or a burnt out tail light..
If you're out late in a group of uhm "fixed up" cars... expect to be looked at. #1 there is the chance of street racing #2 chance of drinking #3 chance of drugs. If they pull you over they need a reason. Can't be he was trying to investigate.. your car was loud and you decided to try to tell him his job.. how would you act?
I've had 2 exhaust tickets in VA from my supra.. went to court on one and showed my ***.. told the judge the car resides in NC and is registerd in NC and it's not illegal in NC. I asked if I should take the aftermarket exhaust off before comming to VA.. yea thats a REALLY bad idea.. amazingly the price of the ticket went up... needless to say the 2nd time I just paid it
You live and you learn.. do what you think is best and just remember the outcome.. everything in life is a learning experiance :shruggs:
