Default can the s2000 oil filter fit on k20z3's without adverse effects? Couple other questions as well.

i was told by people in the honda parts dept that the s2000 oil filters will fit and i just wanted confirmation of it. i also wanted to know if it will make my oil pump work harder, which might cause it to fail earlier. Will my oil pressure also drop to levels that it shouldnt? I am pretty sure that honda only carries 2 types of oil filters. A large and a small. I am also aware that the big and small oil filters could be used on different engines without problems, but this had to do with the B and H series engines.

The reason i wanted to use the s2000 oil filter was because of better filtration of particles that might be in my oil.

Second question: i currently have 1200 miles on my car and ill be driving up to san francisco(which is a 400 mile trip each way) and i was wondering if i could top off my oil with any kind of normal dino oil or if there is a specific kind i should be using since i am still on factory oil. i just didnt want oil starvation in the middle of no where on a brand new engine.

Hmm, I think your oil pressure would increase. Didn't Honda stop making the larger filters? I remember when everyone was bitching when they started only carrying the small filters.

I believe the factory oil is Castrol 5w 30. You can also refer to your owners manual.

the s2000 uses the larger oil filters. i just bought it at my honda dealership and they didnt say anything about the big ones being discontinued. also, i think it would go down since the filter is bigger, so there would be more oil inside the filter, but i am wondering if it would drop to a point that i should be concerned about. I dont think the owners manual gives me a brand. they give the viscosity, but i can get that viscosity on my oil cap also, isnt the viscosity 10w30?

If you're concerned, why not just buy a Purolator Pure-One. They are better filters than the oem Honda filter, especially the filters the US gets.

But honestly, Honda motors are pretty clean and I would use the size recommended by the factory. A larger filter will probably do nothing for your street car if you change the oil every 3-4K miles.

after the first 5000 miles i will be switching over to mobil 1 and i will be changing my oil every 5000 miles. the oem filter has yet to fail on me, so im going to continue using the filter, unless i start road racing and need a faster flow rate. If i did start road racing, i would be changing my oil probably every 1000 miles, but i dont plan on road racing anytime soon.

anyone know about oil pressure?

as long as the z3 uses a standard 15400 plm a01 ( a standard oil filter ) - then it will take the s2000 filter.

FYI - its guaranteed, honda has only 3 oil filters their not gonna make 4 for this engine.

so, what you're saying is that it'll fit?

ill call the parts dept tomorrow and get the part number for the oil filter for the k20z3 and see if it's correct.

It has been my experience that parts departments are the wrong place to ask "will this work" questions. They usually have a part number and a price. Maybe you are luckier where you are. Having said that why stress so much about this decision? I use Mobil 1 in my car with the oem filter and feel pretty good about things, but if I wanted better filtration I would good with a good aftermarket filter. Who cares pay $2 bucks more and get it at Napa.

If you really want better filtration buy a more expensive car, i.e. BMW. Then you could got ~15,000 miles between oil changes and the car would tell you when it was ready.

In response ... ITS HIGHLY UNLIKELY that Honda will make a completely new oil filter just for this engine, seeing how they only have 3 total. It will have a standard plm-ao1 filter, which means s2000 fits.

the s2000 will fit

The newest iteration of Honda filter is backwards compatable with everything I've tried to put it on so far. I run an S2000 filter on my 1993 D16Z6 Si.

Any one of these would be your best bet: http://www.prostreetonline.com...ilter Bosch or Denso are our favorites.
