Default Bought a turbo kit got a couple questions

I bought this HMT setup a guy had assembled for his car 1998 Civic EX

IM installing it on my D16Y7 98 civic until my D16Y8 with internals is completed

a couple questions

the wastegate has a 10 psi spring in it and he claims he ran that on his stock injectors which is dman near impossible he did send me some dsm 450's

what I wanna know is is there anyway besides changing the spring that I can lower the boost? I wanna run around 7 psi for now and he has a P28 ecu with it that had a basemap for what he was runnign but Im going to install the dsm 450's

how bad will changing the injectors mess up the basemap or will I be ok

and finally is thet walbro 255 necessary for 7 psi?

thanks a lot!

to go under 10psi i think you need to change the spring....are you gonna get it tune? i think if you upgrade the injectors your car wont idel right...and the walbro 255 is a good fuel pump everyone runs 'em

u will need a new basemap, it won't run with that basemap cause it was created for the injectors that u are running right now, so when u up them u have to get the car retunned, and geta new basemap

ok I know that it will run diff with diff injectors
will it run more rich?

cause I have to drive it until next friday when I go to get it tuned expletive it I'll just leave the 10 psi spring in there slap the 450's on and hope its running pretty rich so nothing is in danger cause you know dman well Im gonna get on it a little bit

its not going to run, and if it does it will be really shitty... when are u puting the turbo kit on? i would cordinate it in a way that u can put it ina nd then go have it towed to be tunned.. unless u can get a base map made for u with the 450 injectors that will work as well and u can drive it down there but try to stay out of boost

I see well I guess I could leav ethe stock injectors on and drive it to the shop then install the 450's and get tuned with CHROME

You mean tuned with Crome?

I would be cautious of running that ECU with his basemap. Just to be safe you should just create a new basemap for your 450's. If you are looking for plug-n-play saturated injectors you will probably be better off getting some RC 440's pr 550's.

got an idea today

I can leave the stock injectors and stock ecu and just leave the charge pipe unhook for the short drive to the dyno

is that safe?

then when I get there i can slap the injectors in and put the P28 and jumper harness in and have em tune it

safe?

you can run stock injectors and stock ECU, but leave the charge pipe hooked up. Just make sure that you DO NOT BOOST the motor. Drive it around in mid to high vacuum and try not to drive it in low vacuum or under heavy throttle. even though you should be fine it is still pretty risky to run the car with the turbo installed and stock ecu/injectors.

agreed, but very risky, imo worth it to tow it to the place and put the injectors in and tune it and then go have soem fun!

like these guys said, if you put in the DSMs your curent basemap will be garbage. so you could either get a new basemap that is scaled for the 450s or just run your stock injectors and ECU. i say depending on how far you need to drive for tuning just leave the stock injectors and ECU in. the car will drive just like stock as long as you dont boost. its still risky because if you "accidentally" boost things could get bad pretty quickly. a new basemap and the 450s may be a bit safer but still not safe enough for boost so there isnt really too much of a difference. just take it easy on the stockers and you should be ok.

also you will need a smaller spring to go under 10psi and that guy could have been using stock injectors on 10psi if he was using an FMU. but we all know engine managment is the way to go.

if you dont feel like doing the resistor box install then you could easily get some RCs or whatever but since you already have the 450s i say go ahead and throw those in. i dont think its completely necessary to get the fuel pump but its another safety precaution and will allow for more room to grow in the future.

thanks a lot you guys are a great help
I think Im gonna go ahead and get some RC 550's or something because I do plan on swapping in a built D16 thats in the shop right now
but this kit came and I wanted to boost my current motor for a couple months

bu yea Ill def take it real easy on the way to the shop

this local guy told me just cranking it and letting it idle could lean it and blow I may jus tow it to be safe

thanks lot anyways!

that was real intelligent

but anyways looks like a decent custom setup. what manifold is that? it looks more expensive than the rest of the setup combined. and you gotta love that dump tube only thing that kinda concens me is that elbow coming of the compressor. may melt or blow off easily but i dunno it might hold up.

ur gonna have problems if u dont get that rubber gromet off ur turbo itll melt or can be sucked in the tubro there are stories on here where its happend you need to get a metal filter adapter or a screen its gonna be bad news

are you talking about the air filter? i dont think there will be any problems there. there are plenty of people running filters directly on the compressor. i have heard a few stories but that usually with really cheap filters.

newbs. the d16y7 does not have a traditional intake manifold with the throttle body on the side. it is located on top with the runners going directly to it.

oh and i don't wanna ask, but that does look like an ssac manifold

your the dude on the carolinas-hondas site. i wouldn't miss those charge pipes. you know you can download crome free and set up a basemap its not too hard. or you could run you stock ecu and injectors and just pull the wastegate spring. good luck
