Once again, water in the hatch...search done...
Just before I go tearing my car apart, I want to confirm that the general consensus on water infiltration, in the hatchback that pools in the spare tire well - is cause mainly by taillight gaskets that are worn.
I have searched and read all the topics but the latest wa in 2003 , so I figured there may be new info.
If this is the first step, I am gonna do it next week. After that, i have no idea where else to look.
While my car sits all day in the pouring rain...there is barely a a trickle in the spare well, but after a 20 mile ride in the pouring rain...I have 1 inch of water in the well.
Any ideas welcome, preferably from those who have solved a water infiltration issue.
I wonder how much water will be in my hatch after my Mosport lapping day tomorrow? the forecast rain all day.....

take the grommet out of the spare tire well... Nothing will build up, but you might get some fumes if the windows are closed.
As for actually fixing it. I dunno.

Might work for your car too.

As was mentioned in the above thread I think that guy had excess patience. I probably woulda just sold the damned car.
I've owned 3 DC2's so far and knock on wood, none of them have had any leaking issues whatsoever. After reading the above post I actually felt frustrated for that poor guy.

I was going to say strip the trunk and have someone spray water onto the car so you might be able to see where it is coming from. But if it sits there and nothing happens then I guess that idea is shot.

</TD></TR></TABLE>More than likely it's the taillight gaskets. I had the same thing happen to me on my first Honda & that was a 92 Accord hatchback. An 8mm socket fixed it real quick. I've seen this happen on more than a couple of Hondas over the years. I wouldn't try cleaning the gaskets, they might fall apart. Just tighten them.

If you say that it only happens when the car is moving, you gotta think of what is different about your car when you're driving it. Have you checked in your rear wheel-well to see if all of the rubber stuff is still intact? Maybe there is a leak in that, and when your driving, the water flings up and gets into the car somewhere.
I would tear the lining out and strategically place and/or tape dry paper towels to determine the entry point. It may take several rains to pinpoint the leak, but it can be found if you are systematic.

This is a good point.

Based on the symptoms you seem to be experiencing, i would suggest you buy the new gaskets for the tail lights and install them. I had the exact same symptoms and bought new gaskets from acura, installed them, and i haven't gotten a drop in there since.
Thinking about your symptoms it makes sense to me that it would be the seals. Since when you are driving in the rain all the water from the roof and sides of the car is running to the tail end of the car and then off it, so alot more water would be getting to the taillights when you are moving ,as opposed to when the car is just sitting parked in the rain.

Thanks for all the responses. The seals are ordered and will go this week. If that doesn't cure it, I will put someone in the trunk ( probably me) and hose it down ( someone else) and see what's up.
I'll keep ya posted.
