Default Head Gasket

I have a unique setup and was wondering if anyone could help.I have a h23 head on a h22a block. My problem is an oil leak between the head and block on the back right side of the motor under the intake cam gear.Joel at JG told me to use the h22 head gasket when he sent me my block. Also i know in crvtec conversions the ls head gasket is used so this makes sense but i still have a leak.I am planning on removing the head and having both gaskets handy for comparison but was wondering if anyone had any input.Any help would be appreciated.

Well,i didnt really mean for it to turn out that way.i spun a bearing in my h23 totally screwing up my block.I called JG and ordered a new bottom end build with them providing the block and crank. When it was finished Joel tells me that he got a h22a bottom end instead of a h23 but the blocks were the same except for an oil orifice which had to be swapped from the h23 to the h22 block.Cool no problem everything lined up and the engine runs great but has a slight oil leak so i am not progressing any further with the project intil i resolve this problem.

If the block had been decked by JG, the bracket below the intake manifold may cause the head to not sit properly on the block. If the block is a bit shorter than your oem (it might be since the GSR and LS blocks are different heights), it will do the same. Remove the head and remove that brace at the rear, then torque it down again. If oil still leaks, there is a surfacing problem.......

if I remember correctly 2point6 told me that the oil orafice in the H23 is in the block, the H22A is in the head.

Might want to check on that.

If its what I'm thinking of, there is a bracket under the intake manifold that goes from the intake manifold to the block. It is not required, you'll be ok without. (Its called a 'stay' or something like that)

Cool.I'm going totry the bracket thing. Also i talked to a guy at OPM motorsports near Atlanta and he ran into a similar problem and said the h23 gasket fixed it.These guys race a 93si in scca not sure what class but they also manufacture camber kits and lsd's for ludes so as soon as i find out some info i'll pass it along to you guys.
