bad wheel bearing?
I get this whine (top down, radio off) that sounds like a bad wheel bearing. It whines whether the car is in gear or not. I just fot my S2000 about a month ago, so I am not sure if it is a 'normal' noise or not. The car has 53k on it. Has anyone had similar probs?
I've seen it a lot on 00 models that never fixed the axle nut tsb. Loose axle nut, gave too much play and caused wear on the wheel bearing.
On my 00 the rear wheel bearings went out at about 50k.

The car is bone stock. I cant completely tell which wheel (or wherever) the whine is coming from. I keep hearing mixed reviews; some say this "whine" noise is pretty normal coming from the tranny, some say they have no noise whatsoever. Since the noise kind of echoes in the cabin, it is hard to tell exactly where it comes from. HELP!

That happened to me a month ago, I didn't take it in for the loose axle nut, ended up having premature wear on the wheel bearing and needed the hub and the wheel bearing replaced. Took it to honda and they replaced it for free, hondacare
NOw I have to work on the soft top tear

try tightening the axle nut first. I found that my wheel bearing had already been replaced, but the hub had NOT; which means someone took a shorctut and didnt do the whole job. So I did the same thing, put everything back together and tightened teh **** out of it. No more noise, no more wheel clunk
If it is not a wheel bearing/axle problem, could it be coming from the tranny? The noise doesnt quite sound like metal on metal, its more of a general whine. I asked my friend with an ap1 about it, and he said that it is pretty normal coming from the tranny/rear diff. Everything else aside.... are everyone's cars relatively quiet in general with no wind/radio distractions?
There's definitely a whine when I engine brake, but its been there since the cars came off the lot, both of them. It seems normal, never getting any louder, and almost goes away when the motor/tranny is warm.
Its not a noise coming from engine brake down, the noise is aparent whether in gear or not and the noise doesnt go away at all. It loudens with speed and sounds to be coming from the transmission/diff. I guess I will have to post a video clip sometime.

I'm almost willing to admit that Oz might be right.

I don't think its the clutch buzz, because he says the sound is there whether in gear or not. The clutch buzz is usually only apparent while decelerating around 3-4k rpms. So if he's not in gear, i don't think it would be the clutch. At least thats what i get from my car, i have the clutch buzz
