Default removing tranny, cant put car into reverse

i know that the car has to be shifted into reverse in order for me to pull some cables, but the problem is that the stick only goes freely between 3rd and 4th(while staying in 3rd) so i cant get it over to reverse, how could i do this?

help !

I highly doubt that is the case, not to mention more information would be helpful in your diagnosis.

Synchronizer..........

The 5th/reverse synchro could be messed up. Don't know how or anything though.

Trannys are a bitch.

Can you put it into 5th?

agree'd ur tranny is done for so dont worry about gears and cables? where on earth are u finding cables at around the tranny? if i read ur info correct both cars u have listed would be using the hydro set up so u have a hydralic line slave cylinder, spedomiter cord, tranny mount, shift linkage, inspection plate and unplug the sensors that run with the wiring harness.

You guys dont understand, the car is enganged in third, the stick can move freely, no resistance, with the clutch pedal in or out between 3/4th and it cant get out... i doubt its a tranny problem

sounds like the shift cables to me. are your shift cables cought on something? you should follow your cables from the shifter arm all the way to the tranny and look for snags.
