time for a new exhaust
i have my heart set on the apexi world sport or a thermal. which one do you think gives the best gains? and where can i get one for the cheapest price for a 5th gen?

It doesn't matter what kind of gains you see unless you're running the EXACT same set-up as the test car under the EXACT same conditions.
The common theme I'm seeing is people buying an intake/header/exhaust/etc. based on some dyno comparisons that involve different cars. In order to get the most gains out of a particular upgrade part, you need to keep your variables consistent.
If brand A header gives more of a hp gain than brand B, it could be because it was coupled with brand C intake. Brand B might give more of a gain if it was coupled with brand D intake...and so on.
The point that I'm trying to make is go with what you like. Go with what you can afford. Dyno/bench tests aren't nearly as informative as advertised.
Just my $.02

The only time gains from a catback really come into play is when you have a heavily modified engine or forced induction. No exhaust out there is going to give you more than 6 or 7 whp. If you can tell the difference between an exhaust that nets you 4hp and one that nets you 7hp, then you must be REALLY in touch with your car since that amount of power can fluctuate based on weather/humidity alone.
that being said, the Thermal is a straight thru design and can theoretically SUPPORT more horsepower (Apexi is chambered). The Thermal also has better fitment (Apexi midpipes hang low) and is full 304 stainless (Apexi has mild steel piping),
The Apexi sounds very close to stock -most people can barely tell its there. The Thermal is somewhat loud and has a very low pitched sound.
I personally would get the Thermal, or, if you want a quieter exhaust that is still full stainless and is still straight thru, get a Tanabe Hyper Medallion (NOT the Racing Medallion).
so there ya go - decide what features are more important to you and pull out your credit card. Problem solved
by the way, coximport.com has great thermal prices. you get 5% off your first order if you sign up for the email list. That should put the thermal at under $500 shipped. can't remember what their Apexi prices are like.
hopupracing.com has some of the best prices on Tanabe - you should check the Hyper out too.

alright now you guys got me thinking about stainless steel. does anyone know which one is quieter? the greddy evo 2 or the greddy sp2?

They are very close in volume. both meet the 95db limit to be legal (in most states). I've heard about minor fitment issues with both the SP2 and Evo2. The midpipe on the evo supposedly doesn't hang down as low as on the SP2. SP2 has a larger resonator which some people have said is prone to scrape like the Apexi systems.
If your willing to go with something above a "quiet" sport exhaust like the WS2 or RSR, your best bet is probably Thermal - fitment is awesome and ground clearance is as good/better than stock.
The Evo might make 1 or 2 more peak horsepower but you'll never notice the difference.
