Let me guess, it hits the tranny when u try and twist it on?

The pan was meant to be put on with the motor out of the car or separated from the tranny, where you have plenty of room to twist it around the pickup and then it goes on fine. I struggled with the same thing when I bought one, even went down to Canton(back in CT) and they showed me how to put it on with a block they had lying around. I sold the thing and had a custom baffled pan made from my stock pan.

Not sure what others have tried, but that was my experience and I didnt feel like messing around with taking the tranny out JUST to have a pimpin gold canton pan on there. I guess you have to take the tranny out, or move it out enough so you can have room to twist the pan on. My $.02, good luck.

thanks for the replies... my shortblock is on a engine stand so i have plenty of room to work with. if i take off the windage tray the pans fits fine. if i bolt the windage tray in... its a no go and the pan hits. just seeing if any others had any problems with this...

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this....

To start with the General construction of the Canton Oil Pan is crappy. (Surprising, because I always thought they made good stuff?)
The B18 Oil Pan that we bought from Canton, when fitted to the block had to have chunks ground out of the edge of the gasket flange so the flywheel would not rub on it. The Gasket flange is flat, unlike the Moroso Unit which is I guess just a Modified Stock pan and has the Honda style indentation running around the middle of flange which helps locate and seal the gasket. The flange edges on the Canton Pan are so badly formed and miss aligned the CV Boot on the drivers side shredded against the flange edge!
Need I go on? Perhaps we just received a bad piece? but compared to the Moroso Pans we use now, I would never recommend a Canton to anyone!
Has anyone else had these problems?

yeah, i just actually got off the phone with canton and im gonna return it. too bad i have to pay for shipping back. i bought the pan and mind you this is the newer version which corrected all of the problems you just explained kiwi and it still has issues. the pan will now clear the girdle but will not clear it if you bolt the windage tray in. they said they engineered the pan to run with out the windage try

i refuse to run my expensive motor without a windage tray in place.
