Default Ban the word "pre-load"

ok this is a slight venting post. im sick of people posting about omnipower crap and "preload"

every topic with bad ride 50 people say "PRELOAD THEM"

back in the day i had HR lowering springs and those were a good 2" from being preloaded on the shock. not once did they ever come out of the seat.

personally i think preloading is a myth because the weight of the car holds the spring tight even at like 50lbs pressure. now unless your hitting jumps and getting your car airborn the springs arent going to slack..

chime in with your opinions
or your hitting speed bumps at 40mph...

we should also ban any topic with the word 'best' in it from this forum.

If an online message board pisses you off this much that you have to post about it you need to get out of the house.

Theres a great longass thread in the RR/Auto-x forum about preload.

Anyone that tells you that preload affect spring rate... dont listen to them.

True for linear rate springs. If the springs were progressive, wouldn't it change the rate, due to the fact that as a progressive spring is compressed the rate increases?

Actully, as far as I know, the original use for preloading a spring is to stiffen or soften it in oder to optimize the performance of your suspension.

I can preload my omnis so that the springs alreaday carry a given load before they even begin to be comrpessed by the car and then an even greater load once you take a corner.

As for the entire debate about your spring leaving the seat, I completely agree with you. Unless your suspension is miraculously extending to its maximum (as if it were on jack stands) then your springs will stay "loaded".

And anybody that is dumb enough to own a set of height adjustable coilovers (I'm not referring to shortyz21 here) and install them with enough play for the spring to move an inch shouldn't have them in the first place.

I think you may be confusing load with springrate. Your suspension is loaded more while cornering, but that doesn't effect the springrate or how much that load compresses the spring (if they're non-progressive).
