4th gen civic front shocks on 5th gen civic?
i just bought a set of used koni yellow shocks (neuspeed edition) fior my 94 civic coupe. the rear shocks are the correct part number but the front shocks are actually for the 88-91 civics. i didnt realize this until i looked at the part numbers on neuspeeds website. does anyone know if this is a big problem.....are they that much different? if it is a problem i can just try to sell the two front shocks and spend a bit more on two new fronts.....not a big deal.....just need to know before i do it. i already posted this in the civic forum but haven't gotten much of a response over there. im hoping that someone here can help me out. thanks

I don't think it should be a real problem. The only thing I know that is different is the base of the shock. The 88-91 civic's have a smaller base and if you were going to use them on your car, you would need to get the fork from those years. Other than that I don't think so. Also I used my Tokico shocks from my 99 Si on my 90 civic. I just had to buy some forks from a 92+ civic, and they fit with a little work. If you don't want to fuss with it, I can trade you my shocks for yours plus some cash.
ok, so i should be fine if i just go with the forks from an 89-91 civic. will the forks fit just the same, or would i have to modify them? also, where would you recommend going to get these forks? thanks for the help....
The forks will fit just fine without any modification. Just go to a auto salvage yard and get them. I did have mine lying around from when I did my swap, but I think I threw them away. I'll look for them today when I go home. If I have them I'll sell them to you real cheap. I'll let you know.
thanks, if you do still have them i will definitely buy them from you. thanks for all the help. this is what the guy from koni sent me in regards to my question. im not usre what he was thinking.....unless there is a height difference in the forks between the 4th and 5th gen......
Christopher,
The front shocks that you have (8041 1166SP3) will not work on your 1994 car.The 89-91 Civic shock is about 2" longer in min length than the 8041 1152 Sport (or SP3 for the Neuspeed version) which means you'll have very little to no travel left for the car to operate. It is recommended that you switch to the 8041 1152 Sport (or SP3) shock when installing these on your car. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Thanks.
Gordon
thanks again,

Well I went the other way and it worked fine. Besides, you can always try it with the 88-91 forks first. If it doesn't ride good, then you can just buy the shocks he said. If I find them I'll sell them to you for 20 bucks.

Hey dviant94ex, sorry but I threw them away. They're fairly inexpensive and you shouldn't have a hard time finding some at your local auto yard. If you have any further questions just let me know.
