An oil that my B series loves...
I've been through many different brands of synthetic oils, and I think I just found the best.
I used to run Castrol Syntec and M1 30wt oils, and I would notice a bit of smoke in VTEC. When driving with my B16 tranny on the highway, I was adding oil along the way. Keep in mind that my engine is healthy, and I have even 275psi compression numbers across the board. My B series isn't the only engine that liked to burn oil in high RPMs, I see a lot of low mileage B16s and GSRs that burn a bit as well.
I switched over to Mobil 1 0w-40, it is an ACEA A3 rated full synthetic... a lot of guys on the BITOG forums love the stuff... Ever since my fill 800 miles ago (including highway miles), I haven't burned any oil and it is still a nice golden brown color. I even noticed an increase in oil pressure by about 5psi. I don't think that this has all that much to do with the weight, because I have used 40wt dino oil, and it was crap. I'm quite positive that this M1 is just a good quality oil that doesn't like to break down.
I'll be doing an oil analysis when I change it out at 1500-2000 miles. If your B series likes to puff a little bit of smoke in VTEC, give this stuff a shot. I don't see myself switching to another oil. Check it out and tell me how it works for you.
OT: Even my Miata likes it, the Hydraulic lifters are known to tick in those engines.. and this stuff quiets down the tick by a good amount. I'll probably run this oil to about 8000 miles in the Miata.

Porsche uses that Mobil 1 0w40 in all of its cars, even the Carrera GT! I will give it a shot. Ive been running the castrol and i puff in VTEC. Engine has 265 psi on all cylinders.

A transmission and a clutch/pressure plate later she's running great. I was just talkin' ****.

Good info. I was always under the impression that 0-40 would be a little too thin of an oil(cold wieght) however I could be mistaken. I'm currently running motul 5w-40300v and my B seems to love it. However its hurting the pockets so I might consider switching to this. I dunno. Please keep us posted on the oil analysis!!

is this safe to use year round?
why do i hear people recomending M1 15-50 which seems to be the other side of the spectrum?
And won't a good catch can setup eliminate the high rpm puffs?
I'm just curious.

lol the first number of the oil is the weight of it when its' cold, the second number is when it's warm.
people often get that confused.

my all motor car was using 5w30 redline and smoking real bad . burned quite a bit . i have since switched to 5w50 castrol and love it. im interested in the 0w40 but what does the 0w cold do to the motor?
maybe i'm smoking crack, but the 0w is supposed to do great in cold weather, isn't it?
i mean people go to a 5w30 from a 10w30 if they move to michigan especially in winter time right? wouldn't a 0w be more of a good thing??
i could be wrong

Yep, a lot better than a 10w oil.
I looked up the pour point on the M1 0w-40, and it is -65deg
M1 10w-30 is -49deg
I doubt many of us will be in that kind of weather anyway

All year round.
It will outperform other oils in both winter and summer.

I'm not sure about the quality of M1 15w-50, I haven't heard much talk about it. My guess is that it is an ACEA A1 like the rest of M1 oils. (Besides the special blend)
I think a catch can will definately help out too... it'll just collect less oil with the M1.
This oil meets ACEA A3,B3 and B4. It stays in grade and his high HT / HS viscosity. Not to worry

that and oil is cheaper. I'll try this oil on my motor after break in, it's still at the machine shop though.
