Default A FREE cars comes with a price...

The red 91 Civic Si I got about 3 months ago for free to replace my 89 Civic Si finally said no more. I started pulling the motor today. I won't have a engine lift until Friday so I just went ahead and got all a/c **** disconnected, and engine harness, all vaccum hoses ect. I want to put a d-series back in preferably a rebuilt/built a6. Any suggestions on brands I should stick with rebuilding/building it back? I want to bore out my stock sleeves, I want to say it's like .20 over or something like that, with some oem oversized ZC pistons for a little higher c:r. Probably oem bearings, stock a6 rods shotpeened. I am still playing with some options, that is reason for this post, maybe you have had some better luck with other setups or similar. I do not want a vtec conversion or vtec motor, this is just my daily driver, so I want to keep things simple. So whatever feedback you have would be sufficient. If you don't mind, keep negative comments to yourself and bump if you view! Thanks!

Not really going to help with your questions, but you dont need an engine hoist to get the motor out. Get a tire, some wood, jack stands and a jack and you are good to go.

Just jack up the car as high as you can and adjust the jack stands under the front liftpoints of the car. Then when they are on there, take some wood and put the jack on that and jack it up some more. Then slide a piece of wood with a tire on it under the motor. Drop the motor onto the tire. Pull the motor on the tire and wood from out of the bottom of the car.

I would stick with all OEM parts. Do ALOT of reserch on OEM honda d series parts. Look at compression ratios with diffrent pistons, rods, cranks, heads. Look at a OEM metal head gasket and remove two layers. Look at stuff like the b16 throttle body fitting the y7 intake mani. Search around on things about the lighter D series crank pullys and flywheels, also check into the bigger and longer duration OEM cam.

Maybe if you want to spend some money get some pistons and/or a 8 pound flywheel.

Lots of power to be made with OEM parts and very good every day driver of an OEM motor.

My last B16 was an all OEM motor that was a dailly driver 12 sec. no boost car.

I finished a 2 year rebuild of my 91 crx si. Motor is d16a6, .040 overbore, cast redline oversized pistons (cheap), stock rods, machined head, 10.5:1 compression, new stock springs & original valves, 12lbs. act flywheel. This is just the engine, everything else has been rebuilt as well. I spent just about a thosand dollars on complete rebuild including machine work. Of course I assembled & installed. I wouldn't use any smaller flywheel as red lights will be a bitch, especially with AC.

i pulled the motor yesterday and its going to the machine shop tomorrow to be torn down, then a full rebuild/build.. P29 dohc ZC pistons, stock rods, polished crank, fully balanced! Head is probably gonna be stock valves with better springs and retainers ( OPEN FOR SUGGESTIONS ) a mild cam, cam gear. I will port and polish my self. a header, fuel rail, aem FPR. and some others. also a y8 metal headgasget.. It should make some nice compression.

BTW: the condition of my stock sleeves will determined weather or not i bore it. You can only bore it like .20 i think on stock sleeves.

what do you think.
