These are brand new PG6 rods, with rod bolts. These rods are proven to hold about the same as LS rods, but they drop right in. And rather than deal with 100-200k old used rods, this seems to be a pretty good deal!
I'm not sure they're OEM, but they are identical and I think they'd be good candidates for Vitara piston buildups!
The reason is, Vitaras are apparently good to 325-350whp (as far as they've been pushed), so for those of us going for 300whp - why not?
I know Tuner Toys rods are $225 shipped, and Eagles are $300, however you have to notch the block and they're overkill for a Vitara setup IMO.
This is my planned build-up:
D16Y8 block - $40 (legit, from buddy's car)
Vitara pistons - $125
D16A1 rods - $155
ACL bearings - $75
Align/hone - $60 (buddy's machine shop)
Assembly - DIY
Seals & gaskets ~ $65 (eBay or elsewhere)
Oil pump - $80? No idea, buddy works @ Honda so we'll see
Water pump - already have, 11k old
ARP headstuds - already have
ACT HDSS clutch - already have, will probably upgrade to XTSS later
Uberdata - already have
-----------------
$600
for 300whp (hopefully)

These are just my plans. I really wanna do 75.5mm Wiseco's and Eagle's, and a built head. But I'm still in school.

BTW a buddy of mine and I determined that it's more or less the tranny and valvetrain. I'm gonna have you listen again, it's practically silent when the clutch is pressed in.

Was there something bad said about them? I started to read through but it just looked like a gigantic FS thread to me.

Wow, the website says they're good for 600-700HP. That's more than enough for me. Thanks a lot! Saves about 175 off of my motor building costs.
So the tuner toys rods arn't a drop in piece?

OKay on page 9 of that thread the d16a1 rods are mentioned. I know this because i was one of the first one scavenging for them back in 2004. They are known to handle as much power as ls rods without any problems. 300whp is pushing it though.

Do TT rods require block notching or anything like that?

becareful.
I was in the market for a cheap alternative and did alot of searching a couple of years ago. I looked at the rods mentioned, accord rods, and LS rods.
just because the rod is bigger doesn't mean its better. I believe the metal compostion of the d16a1 rods are not as good as the z6 and y8s. I opted for the LS rods, b/c they were from the same generation as the civic and definatley bigger. (no one can dispute the power a LS can make.)
not to say that this isn't a good find/solution, just make sure you know what you are getting and can afford toasting a motor for $175.00 I am all about saving a buck, but you might only be getting somethign as good as what you already have.

$750 eagle/vitara beast > $600 y8 w/oily peep-hole into crank case
These would be excellent for a 200-250 whp motor, but I'm not selling the farm for old OEM stuff. We can all find threads of all-stock d16's making 300+ whp, but that's not saying they won't snap.
My opinion (and I've researched the options before): Stock for under 180whp/fmu/hack, PG6 for 180-250whp, LS for 200-250whp reliably, Eagles for the future. You can find LS rods for $80, get the bushings for $25-45 (can't recall atm), and machinging for fairly cheap. PG6's are good rods, but not for $155. Even if you're pinching pennies, there are better options.
